Default Happy New user

I recently purchased aatf online and downloaded from the link all good ... no problems with a nice quick download (playing the game in less than an hour after starting online purchse)

So far I am very impressed with your product, I have been working in Australian Army administrating various computer based command and control systems since an early system that used to be known as Austacs. It brings back memeories of late nights and early mornings in the cp helping old school commanders come to grips with the LOS tool .

Thank goodness I dont have to work my *** off to help keep this system stable though...

I have just finished converting some Australian DEM's to XDM and importing into the Power tools. The results so far have been awesome (so long as they are good dems).

I have found that 3DEM is the best way for me to get the conversions done, used in conjunction with DEMCON...

I am converting SRTM 3 from HGT to ASCIIDEM with 3DEM but have found that I have to use DEMCON to convert them again to get them to import correctly into power tools... The latest version of 3DEM also patches missing data

While converting with 3DEM you can also export to Terragen which if you can use (terragen)as a 3d terrain browser whilst doing map recce for deployment of resources.

I have also found the save image in 3DEM useful for creating colour overlays though cropping is quite tedious.

Just about to start on Aussie ORBATs and modding so I can make up some realistic scenarios to go with the North Australian terrain

Looking forward to receiving your disc in the mail

I forgot to add that another very useful tool is a program called Wilbur.... it can also be used to generate nice colour overlays..... just open the overlay created by the powertools and blur it a bit resave

Has anyone used AATF in conjunction with Modern Micro Armour ? I am thinking of trying it out maybe with a LCD projector to put a virtual over lay onto a real terrain model with an accompanying digital model in AATF ?

Aussie,

I am very glad you are enjoying the game. I hope you will post some of the maps. I would love to see what you come up with!

Will post them up for sure ... though I may have to reduce the size .... I have so far created empty maps (just elevation contour and colour) for
Camp Kerr (an Aussie Army training area north of brisbane)
Fraser Island (large areas of ocean and great sandy beaches for amphib)
50km surrounding Kabul Afganistan
KIgali Rwanda and some bits of the rift valley Kivu national Park bordering Uganda
Couple of places around Arnehm Land Aust
Canberra Aust 50km square

All data is extracted from SRTM3 hgt files converted to DEM so has a nominal absolute altitude accuracy of 16m.

I have done them all in 50k square chunks which means the file size is around 23mb for the bitmaps.... emp files are of course small so posting them would be easier... I havent yet done any maps with scanned in topo overlays.

I may have to re-do some of the maps and make them smaller, as I didnt realise that the large heavily terrained maps may slow down the program...

Will have to experiment on some maps to find out what work well...

Is there somewhere I can upload maps to ?

I only have dial up at the moment so wont be uploading anything big until my next trip into town

You should be able to attach them to any post in this thread or any other thread. Just hit the "Post Reply" button and the use the "manage attachments" button. I think file sizes go up to 30 MB or so.

NO worrries will post some files next week sometime.... just the xdm contour and colour maps at the moment ....

It will take a while to develop a full scenario worthy of posting.

Progressing slowly but surely on some new scenarios..... Its a steep learning curve using the power toolkit creating new weapons and vehicles.

I am mostly learning off the already existing data to get an idea for some of the values for data that is less intuitive. I must say I was relieved to discover the copy pk's function, not to mention copying vehicles and renaming.

Would be great to have a definitive list on how some values effect unit capabilities.....
