Default Wish

Though I'd save time by digging up an older thread but it seems I've posted this in Dominion 2.

So,
Wishing for provinces, is there any exact formula on how this works, how many provinces you gain by doing so?
And wishing for dominion also?

not sure on the formulae, but neither seems especially effective. It would be nice if Wish were modable

Yes I've noticed that they are effective very much, actually they are a waste of gems. But if it's like a percentage of a total amount of dominion or provinces it might, "might", be worth in large scale games.

Yeah, I've wondered about that a while, too.

I think it's a random roll for each province, and provinces with castles, enemy units are spared.
Maybe on a large map with high gem settings it's worth it as you might pull in a lot of new gems/money after the wish. But then why not just wish for gems.

Wishing for Dom is pointless imo.

Wish is supposed to be more of a "fun" spell than a powerful spell. Fun, mysterious, exciting--you never know what you're going to get when you wish for "power" or "long life" or "death to my enemies." Unless you read these forums, which takes all the fun out of it.

You can only truly see what the Wishes do in an MP game.
And in an MP game where you have invested enough to cast them freely it's a hard decision to just do fun stuff that doesn't help you.

Why is it easier to see what wishes do in an MP game? Many wishes affect only the caster or the caster's nation; those which affect others can be seen in SP via --comptrn.

I'm only talking about those that affect enemy nations.
Well, I cast both wishes in an SP game.
I got two provinces (150 prov map) and my dom stayed the same.
I supposed that was somehow connected to how the AI works, lots of chaff everywhere, their domspreading habits (don't know if that's so different between AI and Human but Mictlan always dies... ) etc.
If not than the conclusion is very simple - never wish for dom or provinces ever.

I agree that wishing for dominion or provinces is not a good ROI. Even in an MP game, though, the other players are unlikely to be able to tell you how your Wish affected their nation--and if you turn on --comptrn in SP you have as much information about the other nations as a human players could give you anyway.
