Default Couple of questions about The Ankh / Life After Death

I'm trying to manage a major fort battle as the defender, and I have the Ankh - want to figure out what's going to happen.

First of all, will it even work if I don't have enchantment 7 researched for Life after Death? I understand some item spells require you to have researched the actual spell for them to work.

Say one of my mages dies during the battle, and is brought back as a soulless mage - will he continue executing his script? Or is it like a new unit arriving on the battlefield?

1. Yes, it'll work. Item spells do not require you to have the spell in question researched. The items are cleverer than your mages are.

2. Err... probably. I couldn't say for sure, though.

1) There were a couple of items bugged that way. I believe those have been fixed. The Gatestone is the one that I remember.

2) Works like any other in battle forced transformation, I assume. I know I've seen mage thugs continue to attack rather than default to "Cast Spells".

I have scripted mages with magic duel x 2
they continued to execute the script after LAd
