Are you going to have one big file that has all the sets available in one download too? That would be a great idea if you have the server space.

If someone goes and downloads every ship set, they use the same amount of bandwidth. Having a compilation file just makes it more convenient for them. And I doubt that too many people would be downloading it each month. Certainly noone on dialup. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

The pain would be the updating of the full zip...

Yeah, that would suck. Make it a policy to do it once a month, not with every set uploaded. Keep a list of all the sets in the compilation available, so people can see what is in it before downloading. There is a program called TreePrint that works very well for listing the contents of a directory and such.
If it is only 112 MBs, that is not as big a problem as 500 MBs. Do you really think you will use 12 GB of bandwidth a month anyways? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Hi everyone.
As trooper knows I have been building up one site to hold every known race. On Friday 240 ships will be available for download from one location. ( All zipped with no preview , do not have the space , to see the complete ship preview you will have to travel to the authors orginial site or SOTAS ) A SEIV Shipset mirror site is my goal.
This site will also be a image mod mirror and a mod mirror site for any mods that need hosted. Basically if its a file and its associated with seiv. Well its going to be there for downloading.
And for those who would like to toss some stuff up but do not have the website. Well thats available as well.
It is my way of saying thankyou to everyone.
Now the legal stuff.
If you see anything that is not correct with author names etc... please let me know asap.
If you do not wish for your work to be available for download please let me know and I will remove it asap.
No llama's were harmed in anyway making the site.
P.S. The link will be posted on Friday
P.P.S. It is a very basic site ( just tables and tables and links )

239 shipsets available for download.
21 mod files currently available ( more to be added )
This is a site in work... But the first release is complete.

[QB]<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">The NeoStandard is a collection of additional hull sizes that shipset creators can add to their shipsets and mod creators can use in their mods. What's the point, you ask? Well, basically what it does is it's like a matchmaking service - on the one end are the shipset creators asking "what hull sizes should I create in my shipset so lots of mods can use my pretty pictures?" and on the other end are the mod creators who are asking "what hull sizes are commonly available in existing shipsets so I can make my mod to use the widest variety of pictures for all my custom hull sizes?" So without the NeoStandard, you might have a Star Wars mod calling for a "DeathStar" hull, but a shipset designed for P&N might have a "BattleMoon" hull in it instead, so the mod couldn't "see" the hull even though it's perfectly appropriate for the purpose. With the NeoStandard, you have a common name, "WorldShip", which P&N can take and tell the user it's a Battlemoon and the Star Wars mod can take and tell the user it's a Death Star.

Tesco, I updated the AI of the Addisian and the Star Empire of Romii to made them compatible with latest Version of SE4 Gold (they weren't gold, before), research drones, etc.
I also rewrote completely the AI of the Infernal Realm that previously used the AI copied straight from another stock shipset.
You may consider updating these, to serve the latest & more updated AI around. Check the Race & Shipsets Thread in the Scenario Forum.

order is by directory... until i change the pages to database driven... So you can sort by Race Name , Directory etc... I did this to keep with the current SOTAS standard.
And since Dominion is already used by the ST DS9 race I added the THE to it.

But adding "The" and sorting "The Dominion" under "T" is just too confusing. You really should change it to "Dominion (B)" or something like that and sort it under "D" after the DS9 Dominion shipset.

What happens in a 5000 point game when a race has AI files but no EMP file?
Fyron
August 10th, 2003, 02:13 AM
EMP files are only ever used if you manually load them. Otherwise, AI empires are always generated from the AI files. So, the AI will use whatever it is designed to use in 5000 point games.

Tesco,
I've just came back from holiday (if one can consider a wedding preparation week is holiday...), and I've just had a look at your site.
Few things I think about it :
- couldn't find the huge download section you are talking about (All I've found is the download section of the ladder universe, with 11 downloads in it ?). Too bad that section has no preview pics...
[Just understood what you were meaning, your shipset download section is in fact a shipset link section ! I'm quite surprised about it, I thought that your primary idea was to create a new shipset hosting zone, with many files to upload in it ?]
- SE IV suppository : seems to be a big copy/paste of existing sites with no file to download (just external links)... what's the use of it ? It's harder to maintain several link lists than managing only one, and it will be hard for you to keep all those pages up to date. When I took in charge Andre's racedir, it was because he asked me to do so, because he was fed up with it.
Sure you did a huge work indeed, but don't you think it's a bit redundant with what already exists ?

I forgot : Why put a pre-gold shipset download section in the ladder universe ? (anybody still plays pre-gold ? ) I think it's more usefull to take old shipsets and correct them to have them work with SEIV gold (that's what I did with those hosted on Sotas).
And : Why is the ladder section so different in its design from the suppository section ? (one has a black background, and the other a white one, I first thought there were two different sites !)

Sure you did a huge work indeed, but don't you think it's a bit redundant with what already exists ?<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Actually there is more to it then that. I kind of thought the same thing you did but what I didn't notice at first, and you apparently missed it too, is that if you click on the race portraits you can download the shipset from Tescos site directly. So you have the links to the authors page, and then Tesco is offering them for download from his site as well.

http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/blush.gif Oh, missed that. I think it's a point that should be clearly noticed on the site. It changes a lot of things on the site usefulness...

http://www.spaceempires.net has 243 ship sets hosted in the Downloads > Space Empires IV Gold > Shipsets section. I sent you (Trooper) an email about this several days ago. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif I do not have any sort of preview, but then, I am not quite sure how to go about doing that with the existing PHP scripts anyways. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif And FYI, I added all of the files to the database (once uploaded) in about 3 seconds with an automated script. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
And yes, there is a fairly large number of people that do not have gold and play 1.49 (they either can not buy it or refuse to buy it).

Fyron : I've missed your mail an site too (as I'm progressively going back to life, I realize that I have much work to do...) This is a site that has to be added on the SOTAS's links. I also have to update the racedir, because many new creations have been realized during the Last weeks...
Tesco : No picture available at the moment, but there will be plenty of them...

Well, that is all my email was about, requesting that a link be posted. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
How much space does the typical ship set preview take up?
