Do you think Shrapnel Games should have a convention to bring together the fans of its various games? If so, please make a post in this thread. Please do not post anything else. This is just a petition thread. No discussions, period. Thank you.

Denver is more central I would try to go. Denver or Moscow are my first choices.

Well, I think it should be held here, in Canada, in order to save us canucks time at the border crossing. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Yes they should have one in Austin texas, right next to me http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif . I would like a Shrapnel convention, but I don't know if it would be practical. Maybe a nationwide tour with a Semi truck and dancing girls

With a tour like that, make it go global... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Yes, I'd be there with bells on!
Shoot, what am I saying? Shrapnel HQ is about a 45 minute drive from my house. So if anyone wants to organize something for the Raleigh area, everyone can crash at my place.
Oh, I have a LAN in my home too. BYOB. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
(oops, hope that doesn't qualify as a discussion... hehe)

Heck no, DC is the place! Or out here in the beautiful Virginia suburbs. You guys don't know what you're missing; traffic, high taxes, bureaucratic hot air, terror threats, stifling summer heat and humidity... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

As Karibu, a fierce animal of cold northern mountains, I say the only place to keep this kind of hotheaded conference is Helsinki in Finland in the middle of january. The weather will cool down everybodys disagreements as well your drinks. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

But if you teach a man to fish, he will buy an ugly hat...<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Now that's funny!
Guys let me know if this is something that would truly interest you, I'm "listening".

Sounds like a great idea, at least for those of you who will be able to go. Me, I'll have to settle for seeing the pictures, unless you decide to hold the convention in Brazil.
Nah, that would be a bad idea, there is too much down here that might distract us from Space Empires. Better hold it somewhere more boring. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Well, FWIW, Kenzer & Co (a game company which caters to an entirely different crowd, so I'm not hyping the enemy here) holds their annual "Garycon" at Origins in Ohio (typically 4th of July weekend, earlier this year.)
Based on what I saw at Origins, that would be the ideal situation for Shrapnel to hold "Shrapnelcon." For those who don't know, Origins is the official convention of GAMA, the Game Manufacturers Association and home of the Origins Awards. This year's Origins attendance was somewhere around 13,000-14,000. There was one area of the convention dedicated exclusively to wargaming, and it looked like Lock 'n' Load was getting some hard looks. It also looked like SEIV was gaining some interest.
Anyway, I like the idea of Shrapnelcon, but I think it would be most effective if it took place concurrently with another large event Shrapnel is going to be at anyway.

Im in for California. I'd prefer the bay area, but would not mind other places in the state. I would even hop a flight to vegas if the convention was there. I dont know if i would fly for more than a couple hours to get to the con, though.
Im sure Shrapnel has demographics from their sales info to know where the highest concentration of players are, but perhaps we should try to get a rough count of how many board members are in what areas, and how far they are willing to travel.
Karibu has a good plan though. Ive always wanted to see Finland, maybe we can all get a package travel deal with a group rate. I hear Suko Kolkka is still alive, though I am only familiar with a single word of Finnish, and dont know what I'd say to the man if I spoke more...
Ohio might not be a bad plan, either. If i remember, thats the home of the legendary Geoschmo and PBW, for whom we should all buy a beer.

I can pretty much guarantee that California is out, but who knows.
Actually we do have demographics from our sales, hmm time to look those up.

I'm in if it is within 2 hours of Boston.
I could make an argument that Boston is best for our European friends.

How about Iceland? It's in the middle of the Atlantic (more or less), I hear the airfares are cheap, the bars open like New York diners, and they have hot springs. All we need is a hotel with a working network and we're set!!
Someplace in the Caribbean would be better (I'm sure), but they put so many ads for Iceland in the Last few years, it just makes me wonder. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

I'd go to Iceland or Eastern Canada even though it is more than 2 hours.
I will not go to New York City.

If I may suggest, Baltimore would be a good central location. It has an international airport (Baltimore/Washington International) to allow any of the European crew who wish it to join us w/o breaking their budgets. BWI also has good US domestic hub service for those coming from within the US. It's also a little less expensive to stay in than DC or NYC.

Why not Toronto, Ontario?
I think it has the highest density of active SE4 community members...
Plus, you Americans can get more for your dollar here...well sometimes...
