This is no joke. Well, actually no matter what side of the issue you are on you have to agree the whole thing is a joke, but all these people have either officially declared as candidates and will be on the ballot, or at least filed the preliminary papers.

Arnold Schwartzenegger, He could probably pay off the state deficit with the receipts from another Terminator movie or two.

Gary Coleman, Hey A job is a job. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Larry Flynt, I guess being Governor is the only way he could get an invite to the Playboy Mansion.

Angylyn, Some bimbo that got famous by paying for her photo on billBoards all over the state. How is she not already a Senator?

Gallagher, Yes, the watermelon smashing guy. Sadly he's probably the most qualified candidate for the job.

What I really want to know is why do I not see Aaron Hall's name on this list? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

I caught just the Last bit of a news item on the radio. But, I believe they said around 500 names had been filed to run.

I am so pleased with this hoopla. I'm not worried about the outcome. For one thing I'm not a Californian, for another I found that my Response Attitude Set on Politics no longer includes the entry Worry. I feel a sort of 'national immortality' and a subtle confidence that 'it will all work out'. Because of this, my greatest joy in all things public is to see things 'mix it up'. That's why I like to hear about California or Mohmmar Qadaffi (http://www.encyclopedia.com/html/Q/Qaddafi.asp): great entertainment value.

On that note, I was hoping this whole recall mess would reignite the Divide California issue, and maybe take it far enough that they would fight over where to divide it, or even how many pieces, now that the northern rural region does not call itself Northern California (this being reserved for the Bay Area) but Upstate California (http://www.tenetti.org/mks/Upstate_California.html). That would have been real fun to watch.

I have a LIST (http://www.politics1.com/ca.htm)!!

[edit: I think it was 500 people have filed for the forms to become candidates, but fewer people have actually put their names in the race.]

Some names I was suprised to see on the list.

Bob Dole, when did he move to California? Or maybe that's not THE Bob Dole. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Probably isn't cause they don't list is experience like they do with the others.

Ex-Governor Jerry Brown. ROFL!

Mike Huffington. I knew Arriana is running, but Mike too? Didn't they used to be married or something? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Michael Jackson, nah... Couldn't be that one. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Leo Gallagher. Isn't that Gallaghers brother? The one that got sued for stealing Gallaghers act? Has that guy EVER had an original idea? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Bill Murray. How many comedians does it take to run for Governor of California... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

Michael Savage, Radio Host. I wonder if he will continue his show if elected?

Unfortunately, schwarzenegger.com (http://www.schwarzenegger.com) is not even responding to ping. It is resolving DNS, so I'm guessing he just didn't buy enough bandwidth. Very disappointing. Everybody else's site seem to be able to handle it, but not his.

Some of my Favorites

Larry Flynt (D) - Pornography Magazine Publisher & Casino Owner (http://www.larryflynt.com/)
Jeremy Chapman (D) - Cigarette Store Chain VP & Cigarette Tax Repeal Activist (http://www.smokersparty.com/candidates.asp)
Ned Roscoe (Libertarian) - Cigarette Store Chain President & Cigarette Tax Repeal Activist (http://www.smokersparty.com/candidates.asp)
Gallagher (Independent) - Comic Performer (http://www.gallaghersmash.com/)
Leo Gallagher (Independent)
Bill Murray (Independent)
William Pratt (Independent) - Recent High School Graduate
Angelyne (Independent) - Entertainer & Billboard Self-Promoter (http://www.angelyne.com/)

Hmmm... my dream scenario is, Arnold wins. Four years later he tries to get himself re-elected and loses. In his farewell speech, he says "People of Cahlifohnia... Ah'll be back." http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Seriously now, the guy is very good at managing his career and image. He has the skills to be a good politician.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yes, I agree with this statement. I do find it quite sad though that being a good politician nowadays comes down to how well you are perceived rather than how well you serve your electorate. Unfortunately, this is the state of politics in the US, and also in the UK, and most other places as well I should think. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

I think I've just found out why he makes me so uneasy.

Another random thought. At $3,500 a pop for the application fee, how many gubenatorial candidates would it take to balance the state budget. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Maybe instead of an election with hundreds of candidates they should hold a raffle? They could run it through the state lottery system. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

If you have the following numbers, 12 - 24 - 35 - 7 - 9 - 16, you are the new governor of California.

They were talking about this on the Radio this morning on the way to work.
The question that came up and no-one could answer 100% is, can Arnold Schwartzenegger run for the Presidency, being not born in the US?

Phoenix-D
August 8th, 2003, 01:30 AM
The answer: No.

To be specific:

"No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty five years, and been fourteen Years a resident within the United States"

Article II.

Article II.<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Actually, it would depend on how the Supreme Court decided to interpert the commas in "No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution". If they go with (No person except a natural born citizen) or (a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution) then no, as he wasn't a natural born citizen, nor a citizen at the time of the adoption of the constitution. If they go with (No person except a natural born citizen) or (a citizen of the United States), (at the time of the adoption of this Constitution) and ignore the Last bit, then yes, as he has lived in the US since 1968 (~35 years ago) and became a citizen in 1983 (~20 years ago). He's been a resident of the US for > 14 years, and he's over 35. It all depends on the Supreme Court. They would probably go with the first, and say no. Probably.
