Is there a reason SE runs slower in combat on XP than 95 or 98????

I have not noticed this when I upgraded from Win 98 to XP. I have noticed a speed up and slowdown of SE4 in Win98 if Media Player has been run before. Check XP settings, reboot, upgrade drivers, etc, but you know all that. This would be a tough one for MM to tyr to nail down, so poke around your system and then let us know what you can find.

turn off animate ship combat
turn on fast combat

(the speed difference is most likely due to difference in graphics cards and cpu's for work vs home)

I believe W98 had a limit of 256MB ever able to be allocated to one app. That's a restraint in a lot of 3D programs. With XP, my apps will suck up the full GB (or whatever is unused)... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif .
