Please give me your opinions. I have been trying a different mode of thinking with this one render. If all goes well I will be redoing the Gron set using this concept.

I had gotten through half the redesign when I realized it was not going to work out well.

Ooh, cool... next time try an antialiased render though, the jagged "windows" on the front really ruin the "smooth organic" effect http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Still working on the lighting and all that. The windows were too quickly done.

Does anyone know where to find the antialias in LW?

Nevermind. Do you realize how long I looked to find out how?

Very nice. What do you think of Light Wave?

Tigbit

I am very pleased with it. The prog I used on my other sets (Truespace) would have caused me to give up real quick on this one. We're talking ulcers and all that noise. Lightwave, though it has a non-intuitive interface (what 3D prog doesn't) is real easy to grasp. What isn't easy can be found in the form of tutorials on the net.

have you tried rhinoceros 3.0 ?

i've been trying to play with it as a first attempt at doing my own shipset... its kinda cool

i was wondering if you could give info comparitively.

i know (or at least i hear) that 3d studio max is best... but of course price prohibitive

comments?

I have only used Truespace and Lightwave so I cannot make any comments about anything else. Lightwave is use professionally.

It is rather dark. Perhaps make it a bit brighter so it can be seen more easily?

Very good. Kind of reminds me of the Phong set (one of my favourites) but, uhhh... less yellow. =-) What is that image, about Cruiserish size?

I was thinking more along the lines of transport. I already got working on the other transport sizes.

Turned up the ambient light a bit. How's that? (see prev pic).

I don't know if you consider it a problem or not, but the bottom right portion of the ship has no visible border between it and the black space; it just blends in. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif Perhaps a little brighter?

Other than that, nice ship. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I added another area light. How is it now?

Well, I guess that pretty much sez it. The new Gron set will be done with this concept in mind.

Much better. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

What are you going to do with the old Gron set? Perhaps make it a new race, instead of getting rid of it?

Tigbit

Not sure. I may be redoing all three sets. Perhaps I'll have a classic Version of all three and a modern Version. I'm sure there are others who would like to continue to use the old Version of the Gron as the Gron and no other.
