Hey, my ISP is switching DSL stuff this weekend so my internet has been out since Saturday morning. I didn't know they were going to do it till Saturday morning so that's why I have not turned in my turns. But I probably won't be back up until Tuesday sometime; possibly even Wednesday sometime. So if the games that will for sure run then hold off until I can get my turn in I'd appreciate it.

I'm at my grandparents house now using their slow 56K so I can't get turns in from here either as they don't have SEIV on computer yet. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Can you at least kick Return to Hell, so the rest of us can get the next turn? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif You should be able to get on PBW and log in even on 56k..though downloading the actual turn would be a non-option.

I have experience doing that on a 28.8k modem (also was an emergency). You have to wait of course http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif but the turn eventually gets downloaded. The uploading is a bit faster http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Keep in mind that the return to hell game files are so big, PBW won't send them by email any more. Actually, we're having problems with the processing because they're so large.

The Last one was something like two megs, zipped..

A long time. And I'm on a 1.4 GHz.

Don't even THINK about opening the ships window unless you really, really need to. Something about having over 3000 entries slows it down..

Sorry... I wasn't able to kick the turn. I was going to but I cannot kick it myself. We ran into this problem with the Last turn. Geo had to do something Last turn to make the turn finally run.

If the problem persists we may have to call a winner. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

My ISP is going up and down the past couple days so internet access is limited. So I may be close to deadline on most of my turns for awhile. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Perhaps the game is just too big for it to handle? In any case, we can't ask Geo to keep restarting the game for us every turn. So, I think we should call a winner and end the game.

Rags could do the processing manually each turn.

Fyron is right, I could run the turns. But look in the game forum. It has some information on the problem.

He could run the turns, but he'd have to also email them. They are too big to upload to PBW as replacment turns.

Oh. Well... you could get some hosting space to use to upload the turn files to and email out links when new turns are ready (I might be convinced to give you some on SE.net http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ). Using a better compression algorithm than ZIP (such as RAR, ACE, etc.) would save lots of space and time downloading from there. Or just use Zip if you really want to. That, or end the game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Ships Window open in 3 sec, Empire takes 5 sec and so on. And I have around 5000+ entries in Ships window. Actually I have to wait a minute or two only when cloacking fleets of 100+ ships. There could be done some serious code optimization.

And although it takes 2 to 3 hours to make my turns, I would hate to lend game now when it is going interesting. I want to see if game can handle my 1000+ ship fleet battle against another player of same size of fleet. I think that kind of combats are about to occur in time.
