Running XP here... (yes I know I should upgrade to 2000 one of these days...)
A few weeks ago, I tried to open the Fonts folder in Explorer, when I had apparently way too many fonts for Windows to like in the folder, and got really weird problems with themes and windows and such. I managed to kill most of them, but one has remained, and I can not figure out what the hell is causing it. A picture is worth a thousand words (or more), so here is a (unfortunately GIF) screenshot:

This only happens in some subwindows of some programs. WinRar, Trillian, WinZip, and many others. Any ideas on how to fix this?

You are running a more unusual XP theme...perhaps it is the real culprit?

Not in any way, no. The problem persists in other themes as well. Also, I have been using that theme for some 7 months without a hitch.

The text in that window is way too large and around 40% of the stuff that should be there gets cut off. Go get WinRar (http://www.rarlabs.com/) and you can see what it should look like. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Switch to either normal XP or classic settings and then back to your theme. Perhaps some font size thing has played havoc with text box settings in the programs you mentioned.
Back in Win98, I had changed the size of menu bars and it caused the small icons (like those in system tray) to get a bit larger like the minimize/maximize/exit buttons, but lose their colour resolution.

Already tried that... there is no theme problem.

I think you have to change the fonts used in your Windows. You can do this in the "Properties of Display" dialog in another subfolder (forth tab from left to right, sorry, don't know the English tab name) and there the "advanced" button. The fonts used are Tahoma (8 points) and Trebuchet MS (10 points). Maybe some of these fonts are missing in your Windows or you might have to many fonts to display all of them correctly (never heard of such a problem in XP, so).

I only have a couple of extra fonts installed at this point. Unfortunately, I tried replacing the Tahoma font already, but XP's stupid file protection garbage prevented me from doing it. I even tried changing all the fonts in the display properties to Times New Roman, but XP still would not let me delete the Tahoma font. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif Also, the problem persisted when I used the Times New Roman font. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

I suggest upgrading to 98.
We had that happening in the windows update dialog boxes on some stupid dell laptops we got in.
When you tab over to the buttons and lists and stuff, it should scroll the window as nessesary.
Try going in as administrator, or use a boot disk if you really want to change that font.

I am always in as administrator...
How would a boot disk help? What would I do from it? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif
98 would be a downgrade... the only OS that would be an upgrade from XP would be 2000. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Umm... if that looks normal to you, your windows must be broke the same way mine is... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif It is certainly not normal. Most of the stuff that should be on that screen is pushed off of it.
