Bah! Don't get me started on this topic! The state next to me just passed a conceal and carry law. Major flaw of it is it doesn't apply to inside a school. Seems that is the place it would be most effective. It might make some of those gun tottin' thug punks think twice about pulling a piece on a teacher knowing that teacher might be packin'... especially after the first couple punks catch a 10mm slug in the chest.

It is my firm belief that the second amendment was designed not so much with the idea of the citizenry protecting itself from each other but from the Federal Govt. So not only can they have my gun when they pry it from my cold dead hands, but also my gernades, Claymores, C-4, RPG's, AT and AP mines, and surplus M 113!

I don't like guns. The world would be a better place if guns didn't exist. But, since people do have guns, I would like to have the option of carrying one myself if I chose to do so. It's unfortunate that we have to have guns just to protect ourselves from other people who have guns... it's unsettling to think that anybody walking in the streets can be carrying a weapon that's designed to kill people.

Lets not get into a gun debate. These type of discussions are pointless and cause nothing but hard feelings.

Best to let this thread die rather than start a debate over something like this which can only end poorly. I know, I have seen these type of threads before on other forums and ALL have gone horribly wrong.

And Thanks narf for the PM. I should have been more clear in my posting and not simply just repeated it.

Yes, few people these days bother to point out that the Second Amendment says 'arms' not 'guns'... It's plain that the idea was for the real strength of the military to always be in the hands of the civilian population (which was the reason for 'no standing armies' as well). Once upon a time farmers would have actual weapons of war like cannons just sitting in their yards. They could not have anticipated in that era how specialized and expensive heavy weaponry would become.

Gun control is a failed liberal democratic solution to crime without punishment. DC has the strictest hand gun laws in the nation, but they also have more hand gun violence than any place in the nation. The Feds have the ability to add ten years to any sentence that results from a crime committed with a firearm, but Reno only pursued this in 11 cases. I guess she preferred to just go out and kill them. It is kind of worrisome that an administration that wanted to disarm its citizens was also so busy killing them. A note about the movie, one of the first national policies that the Nazi party instituted was the disarmament of non-party members. Here, it was the middleclass and down that would be disarmed. The Nazi’s second program was the removal of some people’s rights to own property. Makes me stop and wonder what step two is on the anti gun platform.
