What's so bad about being a teenager? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif I'm 16, and that seems just fine for now. (Though I sure as hell wouldn't want to be 16 forever http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif )

If I could go back and relive my teenage years, and could only know one thing I know now, I would want to know how little all the things I worried about back then ended up mattering.
High School Grades: nothing
Regard of my Peers: nothing
Youthful Dignity: nothing
The 'Right' Friends: nothing
Escapist Comfort: nothing
Near Limitless Potential in an Environment of Minimal Accountability: Priceless
Of course, I've got a hell of a lot ahead of me now. I still have at least half my life ahead of me (bunk genes), and I'm pretty sure it's the good part.
But, you who are past 'youth', would you want to go back? Do it again, differently? If you could only take one bit of knowledge with you what would it be?
[edit: oh yeah, HAPPY BIRTHDAY ED!!!! forgot that part.]

Congrats, my turn to hit that number is coming up next summer. I dispute Loser though, to me, grades matter A LOT. Being a serious academic, if anything, they are representative of my inner intelligence. I don't let it dominate me, I have to do a lot of extra-cirricular things to demonstrate other things.

The only thing that high school grades are good for is to get into university, and into the program that you want. If you're not going to university or college, the high school grades are't really important. And the marks you get in university only matter when you apply for your first job after you graduate. After that, nobody cares about your grades.

Welcome, I myself will be leaving the age of 20 soon. It is strange, I greated being 20 with a lot less hazza.
When you say you got a job, do you mean you got a new job, or got your first job? As somebody who has been working since he was twelve, I find the thought of you just getting your first job a little odd.
I have to agree, grades only amount to something if you want them to amount to something. They aren't a matter of anything significant, they don't measure anything (and don't give me any crap about they do, the validictorian of my class cited cheating as how she got there) and nobody ever looks at them once you get into college.

One of my co-workers is in his mid-70's and he is a total weirdo. Some people are just weird regardless of their age.
If I could go back and relive my teenage years, I would:
Learn to drive as soon as I was old enough to get a driver's license and not wait until many years later when I got a job.
I would learn to ride a bike and swim early as possible; actually I would have done it before my teenage years. I didn't learn to do these things until about my third year as a university student.
I would have spent more time exercising. I would have done some weight training and played some sports while I was a teenager. It's more difficult to develop physical skills and strength later in life if you haven't done anything while you were young.
I would have spent my school holidays more wisely rather than squandering them by sleeping in every day and watching too much TV.
I would have learned to play a musical instrument.
I would have invested some money early, so that compound interest has time to work.

A friend of mine once answered the "Teenager again bringing just one discovery with you" question like this: I would tell myself to deal coke, not weed.<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">With that he both broken up the pretension of the moment and reminded us that seomtimes one discovery isn't going to be enough to change your life.

i already think most of the world is weird. i mean, who has the most fun of any age group? kids. why? because, among other things, they don't restrict their sense of humor with artificial concepts like 'cool' and 'sophisticated'.

Think maybe it has something to do with the fact that they get free room and board from Mom and Dad? Tell little Johnny he has to work 10 hours a day to provide for himself I suspect he'd have a little less fun.
