Seriously I just read where Valve reported that the source code for Half Life 2 was stolen by hackers a few days ago and that a playable Version of the game game is already being circulated on warez and hacker sites.
As a result of this Vivide has postponed the release of HL2 from this quarter to sometime late in 2004.
F-ing hacker! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif

source has been stolen, but not enough to put together a playable game.
also they havent delayed the relise date (yet). the major consern is that it will be easyer to make cheats, and of corse that other developers can see how HL2 is made etc.

The source has indeed been stolen in mid-September and Half-Life 2 was delayed to April 2004. I have a source about this but it's in German (www.heise.de, a professional IT-news-magazine). They have to re-write parts of the game, probably the authentification and CD/Steam-Key-part. It's a sad story.

It is ridiculous for them to delay the game to rewrite pieces of the code that were stolen. Any protections will be broken the day after it is released regardless of what they do. Cheats will come out a few days later. Any large popular game follows the same pattern. Look at the Online Diablo 2. The people there work based on their own servers for the B.Net and still have problems with cheating etc.
It is a battle you can't lose. Sad? Yes. But fact nonetheless.

I am getting bored big time by these over hyped games that cannot deliver due to the ridiculous amount of espectations.

From what I have gathered off of the warez and hacker sites I know of, the hackers are claiming they did it because it was their duty to do it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif
Evidently Half-Life 2 was due out Last month but was put off. The hackers felt it was their God given duty to steal the game and release it on the net.
IMHO they are nothing more than clever thieves who should be hunted down and hung from the highest tree with a sign around their necks that reads:
"I stoled HL-2"
(Side note: I hate Word Perfect. Give me Word 2000 any time.)
