I have included a short list of some of the games I have bought this year and would enjoy seeing how you rate them.

I really have to say that after the dismal failure of MOO3, Galactic Civilizations was a welcome and unexpected surprise. I really enjoyed the game, even though it got boring after a while, it was a well designed and fun game to play.
Sim City 4 standard was a dissapointment to say the least, but Rush Hour was a great game and made SC4 what it should have been to begin with.
Unreal II just sucked *** as did EF II.

Gee, when I took the poll, I answered the questions the only way I could.. 'I never played this game'. I thought I would be the odd man out, not having played any of the six games. But lo and behold, when I view the results, I am a member of the vast majority.
Although I will eventually pick up a copy of GalCiv, the other games on your list hold little or no interest for me.
Atrocities, are the poll results what you expected?
Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

I'm surprised more people hasn't played GalCiv. It's a great game, and is moddable also. If you don't like the stock game, just d/l some of the mods they have. It makes the game more interesting. I'll go ahead and say it's my most favorite game of this year, although I'm still waiting for Railroad Tycoon 3 and Civ III: Conquests to come out. Once they come out, I may not play SEIV Gold on a regular basis for awhile. Although I do play it when I'm d/l stuff, since it doesn't seem to take up too much memory (I have 256 meg RAM) and it passes the time.

I have to agree. The game is a really a game of the year for me as well. Nothing thus far has come close to its quality and game play. Support is great as is the community.
The game looks good, has a lot of cool features.
To bad more people haven't tried it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif
Now if we could combine the best of GalCiv with SEIV and a few of the SEV ideas - that would be the game of the year for many years to come. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Is there a thread somewhere answering the question "what's good about GalCiv"?
I read some discussion of it before, and decided it wasn't my cup of tea because:
1) It was described as Civ in space. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
2) Starship combat isn't very detailed.

The ultimate 4X game for me would combine:
The moddability of SE4 (of course http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif )
The strategic options of Stars! (gotta love those Mass Drivers, Jump Gates, variable-speed engines with varying fuel consumption, the list goes on and on! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif )
The tactical combat engine of MOO2 (with a few changes, like starting the ships farther away tham heavy beam range http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif )
C'mon, let's get working on it! Check out the "New Game" thread that Snakeye started and is languishing away without much attention - it's not about just some new PBW game! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Any one here remember Imperium Galatica II? A couple of years ago they had a demo for space combat for IG III, but nothing ever came of the game.
IG 2 had a great demo, and a lot of really cool features. But it lacked in long term game play.
Birth of the Federation was an awsome game with way too much micro managment. Unsupported after the first month by Microprose and generally hated by the Star Trek fandom. (Trekies are way to obessed with cannon to make a good Star Trek game work.)
Star Wars Rebellion was one of the most challenging games that I have ever played. I still love it. But it was way to limited, with only two players, and a maximum of 200 systems.

I have never played any of those six games. Some of them I have not even heard of them. Many years ago I played the old, old Version of Sim City but I don't know anything about these new ones.

i can tell you simcity 2 is bigger and better. still play it sometimes. once you get the hang of it, it's easy, but it's still fun.
