I remember a game that was released in the 90s that was very cool in concept - but unfortunately was lame in terms of AI and playability.
The Emperor of the Fading Suns had the Merchants Guild, The Church, and then 6 or 7 (?) Noble Houses that all vied for control - anyone know this series well enough to mod it?
Just curious.

There are already several pretty good mods out for it.
I think the biggest problem with the game wasn't the bad AI but rather lots of bugs and an incompete game (the Church and all the stuff you could do with was never fully implemented).
There are at least two good mods that I know of already. There was a third one that I really liked but Last time I tried to find it I couldn't. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif
This LINK (http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=367) has links to two of the mods. The Hyperion and NOVA mods for Emperor of the Fading Suns.
I modded it a little but the built in problems that modding can't fix just turned me off of it after awhile.

I think he meant make a mod for SE4 based on that game.

Yah. After I posted and thought about it I realized he could have meant that. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif
Didn't pop into my head immediatly because I always saw Emperor of the Fading Suns more as a planet side based game not space while SE4 is definetly a primarily space based game not ground based.
Not sure how accurate a mod of that game for SE4 would be to the original.
