hi!

I have only played the game normally, and I think it is brilliant, but after playing about 50 games or so, even though it is diffrent every itme, it just gets a little bit repetitive, and I want to try a mod!

I tried adding one thing my self, a new size ship, mothership, just one engine but 3500 space instead of 1500. I did not like this though as I didnt know how to make the AI Build one, I wanted a heavier ship, but I no way want to cheat! it is a bit unfair if the ai builds fleets of ships, and one mothership of mine can wipe them out! I want them to invade me with them aswell!

so basically, can anyone recomend a good mod for me to download that will keep me entertained for ages!

Thanks

wilhil

I would recomend the Devnull Mod for just a little change from the standard game and for a larger change you could try the AIC Campaign.

If you want the AI to be smarter in just the normal game then the TDM modpack is perfect.

Though really to get the best out of SE4 you should try playing against other people. PBW is great for this.

P&N mod with patched TDM AIs is a good choice for lots of small changes to the game that really add up. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

You have to add an attack ship design to each of the races' AI_Ship_Design.txt file that is 3500 kT in size (and a good design, of course), so that they will be able to design them. Once they design them, they will build them (unless in the early phases when they have a max tonnage of ship they will build).

For more information on modding the game (although it is not about AI modding, just the data files), check out SEIV Modding 101: A Tutorial (http://galileo.spaceports.com/~kazharii/modding101/ModdingTutorial.html).

http://www.malfador.com/se4mods.html has it all.

P&N = Pirates and Nomads
TDM = a "mod" that is really a collection of a bunch of custom tweaked AIs, that provides much stronger AI opponents than the stock game does.
PBW = Play By Web, a server that automates the hosting necessities of hosting a PBEM (Play By Email) multiplayer game
AIC = AI Campaign, which is loosely based on Proportions and has a lot of custom techs and comps for AIs to get around as many of the limitations of the AI as could be done, without much in the way of just giving them superstrong weapons/shields/etc.

The Star Trek Mod by Atrocities and Kwok (NOT the Atrocities Star Trek Mod, the other one) is the best one.

Extract Components.zip into the Pictures\Components folder. It is okay to do so in the stock Pictures folder, because it does not change any stock images, just adds many new ones. And, it will save having to have to have 10 copies of all those images in different mods. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Each other file gets installed in the exact same manner, using the appropriate folder under Pictures instead of Components. So Combat.zip gets extracted to Pictures\Combat and so on.

Yes, you want to overwrite files named Components.bmp, Beams.bmp, Torps.bmp, and so on. These contain a table of the "minis" for each image, as they have a 128x128 pixel "portrait" and a 36x36 pixel "mini".

If the FQM help documents were included, check them out. If not, go to the FQM website (http://fqm.spaceempires.net) to view it.
