View Full Version : Constructing multiple items on many ship yards over a planet

It makes sense to have multiple space yard ships or space yard bases over a huge planet with one or two moons, so that multiple training facilities result in speedy training of the ships constructed there.

The inconvenient thing I find with this situation is that suppose I have 25 space yard ships over a planet, and I want to construct a new ship on each of the 25. If I click on the individual ships on the list on the upper right hand section of the screen, it's a tedious process to click the ship, then the build queue button, then add the item, and then click the sector on the system map again to bring up the list, then click the next ship, and so on.

Now, if I use the construction queues button, I can show the ship SY's only and use the multi-add button, but this shows ALL the shipyards in my empire, and the 25 over the particular planet may be scattered inconveniently all over the list and I have to search around for them.

Is there some way to make this process simpler / faster?

rename the shipyards?

Thanks, that works! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I renamed each space yard ship by adding an 'a' in front, and now when I click on the construction queues button, they all appear in a group at the beginning of the list. Oh I see they are listed in alphabetical order. Thanks!

why not name them for the planet there over?

I do this all the time, helps immensely when you have a big empire with lots of spaceyard bases.

Easy way to do it: go to the planet, hite "name" for that planet. This will allow you to copy the name of the planet into the clipboard (ctrl-c). then click on the SY base, hit "name" and paste the planets name in front of the base name. Presto, when you bring up the construction queues window, you have everything geographically oriented...easy to sort, etc...

I always name them after the planet they're over, then a number or set of letters so I have them in order and next to the planet they're on in the F7 window.

The next trick is the Endless Cycle of Emergency Build. Put all your SBY on E-Build at once. Make sure the Last thing they each build is another station. Start those stations out of E-Build. When the old stations get done with Slow, during which they should be building Troops or Weapon Platforms, the new stations will be done with E-Build.

Additionally, you can set the new stations to build more stations as their Last item on E-Build. When you don't need so many stations just Mothball a few, that way you can bring them back later. Before you lose this world, if it is in your frontier or if you are getting torn up, scrap the whole lot of them.
