Hi to all of you !
Well i m a newbie here and i have a little problem that i hope (and i m sure) you can help me with !
It s about research..when i colonize other planets and doing research to these ones it always says ..NEVER.. for the time remaining to these research to be finished !... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif
Why is that ??
Thanks for your answers !

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">hi, welcome to the forums. what are you researching? unless you select 'divide points evenly', only the first research project you select gets points.

That is, unless you have enough points to finish that project in one turn. Then, the excess go to the second project from the left, and so on. But Narf is right. Having 0 points go into a project means that the time to research is total cost / 0 turns, or never finished. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

If you have 0 research points generated it would say never for research times. But if you have your homeworld you should always get some research points.
"when i colonize other planets", that makes me think you mean construction times, and they are never if you don't have population in your planets
Newbie FAQ: (http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=009760)
4.2.3 Put people on your colony ships. The colony module gives the ships some cargo space, use transfer cargo to put people on the ship so that your colony gets some population, otherwise the new colony won't build anything (Saying "Never" on construction time). (Suicide Junkie)
4.2.4 If the colony ship is currently at a planet with population, it will automatically load pop for you if you use the Colonize (C) order, or the Send Colony Ship button under Planets (F4). The latter button will not always work if the colony ship has moved. (capnq)

I'd bet Arkon is right. I'm thinking Boromeo is trying to build Research Centers on colonies while playing a Simultaneous game. The AI has labeled these colonies as Research Colonies and he is trying to build Research Centers, but it says Never for the Build Time.
Check out that link Arkon posted. I know I've founded empty colonies a number of times myself. Just ship some population over there and they'll start building.

Welcome to the Boards. By any chance, would your brand new research colonies be empty {link} (http://invirtuo.cc/phpwiki/index.php/empty%20colony)?
Colonization technology is expensive in terms of research points. You'll need lots of full (http://invirtuo.cc/phpwiki/index.php/production%20bonus) colonies dedicated to research to get it in a reasonable time.
You may prefer to trade (http://invirtuo.cc/phpwiki/index.php/tech%20trading) or steal (http://invirtuo.cc/phpwiki/index.php/capture) this technology.

And don't forget to put up Space Ports in each system. I can't recall if research is tied in with the space port, but you won't gather any resources from any new system until that Space Port is built (unless you have the merchant skill, which means you don't need to have a space port).

Yes, research and intelligence need Spaceports, too. I don't think storage facilities do.

If the planets are telling you NEVER for completion time, then you forgot to load population onto your colony ship.
What you need to do is build a cargo transport, and move some people from your homeworld over there.
If you do have people, your planet may be rioting.
Moving some troops to the planet will help, as will do things that make your people happy (winning battles, and having ships in orbit are good for most races)
