I'm in a PBW game with rules that say no tech trading BUT ship trading is allowed. So would it be allowable to equip a ship of mine with technology my ally doesn't have and trade it for a ship of his, for the sole purpose of gaining technology from each other? I've also posted this in the game forum, but I thought I'd also stick it in here because my next turn is due before I'll likely get a response in the game forum. Thanks a lot.

We can't really give you a definate answer either way, since different people handle it differently. There is no one way that is right or wrong. The only general rule is that everyone in your game should follow the same rules. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Best thing if you aren't sure is to ask the game owner and the players in your game.

Renegade 13 <font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">If the game actually says "no tech trading BUT ship trading is allowed" - then yes go ahead and trade ships. But if it doesn't actuall say it, then as Geo said, ask the host.

No tech trading usually entails no trading of ships with the intent to analyze them. But not always. This is why hosts need to pay more attention and explicitly define the rules for these sorts of situations before the game is even posted to PBW.

Agreed it is better stated up front, like in the Networks II game.
Other game settings:
No tech trading (You can trade ships and analyze them.)
Edit - Fyron, what happened to your Sig?

Alright, thanks guys. I guess I'll just ask the host and players and hope I can get my turn in on time.

truefully. The player should not analzye the ship.
As ship trading is allowed but not tech trading.
but that is the game host call.

I always figured that you could analyze in that situation. The ban was on tech trading, (http://invirtuo.cc/phpwiki/index.php/tech%20trading)when what people are more likely trying to avoid is tech sharing. (http://invirtuo.cc/phpwiki/index.php/tech%20sharing) Trading ships adds enough of a delay to make tech sharing not happen.
O.K. I've gotten a little crazy with the Encyclopedia Malfadorica links. (http://invirtuo.cc/phpwiki/index.php/HomePage) New people bear with me, I'll get over it soon.
But definitely bring it up in the PBW forum so everyone's on the same page

You can ban tech sharing but still allow tech trading... has to be done on the honor system, but it can work. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif Banning tech trading is just that, banning the trading of technology.
Edit - Fyron, what happened to your Sig? <font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">There is a "Show Signature" option when posting that I usually disable, as it is a rather long sig, and who wants to see it on every single one of my Posts anyways? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
