Why do people always want to join the channel, but then leave after 1-2 minutes? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif At least give me a chance to finish typing whatever post I was typing and click back on the window! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Gamesnet seems to be having domain name problems. I seem to remember the IRC channels moving to a new server, but I cant find the thread about it now.

Can someone provide me with the server and port that I can connect to, to access #se4?

irc.gamesurge.net

Don't know about the Port Number. I don't specify it and I can connect fine.

the default port numbers are usually 6000, 6666-6670, 7000 and 8080. of course, that varies from server to server...

anyone in the mood for chatting? Maybe this thread should be sticky, so whenever someone's Online they can just bump it.

We'd have to get into the habit of looking sat the "Last updated" date and time for this thread.

I have noticed that the Chat is always busier during the week, while people are at work, then it is on the weekends, while people are at home.

I wonder why that is? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

In the Status Window for the connection, type /server

It aborts the connection and tries again if I do that.

Alneyan

It did the same for me a few hours ago Narf, but it works fine now. So I guess there is/was something wrong with the server, or something along these lines.

Hi. Nice wolf. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Hey, waitaminite...half a minute ago there was a wolf pic for your avatar..?

Perhaps I should make my Last post more clear...It is just irc.gamesurge.net in the connection manager. And it still doesn't work. I've tried /server.

It didn't work for me either a few minutes ago. There seem to be a problem with the server, but unlike you, I can usually connect after some (granted, quite a few) attempts.

Hmm... Perhaps I should get an award for having written the least helpful post since these forums were open. I do not have the slightest idea about why it doesn't always work, or more importantly, how to make it work.

This might of helped. Should've posted it earlier: [11:54] *** Connection to irc.gamesurge.net failed (couldn't resolve hostname).

I have the same message, so whatever it is, we are in the same boat. The difference is that I can eventually log on. Could it be a problem with overseas Users? It doesn't seem too likely at all, but who said informatics was to make any sense?

Nobody else seems to have the same error by the looks of it. Hmm... Incidentally, is this hostname the one of the server, or the one of the client?

I dunno.

I live in Canada, so it's probably not location.

Alneyan
July 13th, 2004, 09:02 PM
Ah, but do not underestimate the Canadian plot. Several hard drives went down with all hands in Canada, hence highlighting the presence of *something* disturbing computers in Canada.

Why does it strike me? The explanation is very simple: on a rainy day, some Frenchmen decided to settle in a part of Canada, for the sake of bothering the rest of Canada. So either they brought this computer disease with them, or it was something along the lines of a vengeance.

Well, at least I am helping you keep this thread as visible as possible Narf. Who knows? Someone with an actual, plausible idea might pop in and give you the answer you are seeking (I think that looking for the product of 6 and 9 might be helpful to you. Well, perhaps not though).

The Canadian conspiracy has a long reach then. Silliness aside, it doesn't work for me either at the moment of the writing.

My newest theory is that Gamesurge doesn't work when the hour is even. When it is, for example, 4:56 pm, it will not work. It works fine at 4:55 pm or 4:57 pm though. In other words, it seems like a temporary glitch that is somehow resolved without any reason.

I was there earlier today, (around 4:30pm) and got on with no problems. So I can attest that it has nothing to do with any 'Canadian Phenomenon'. But it's interesting that some people would think us so powerful as to affect IRC chanels this way. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

but I got it to work by changing from irc.gamesurge.net to irc.US.gamesurge.net. Maybe it's just the irc.gamesurge.net that's failing....

Alneyan
July 13th, 2004, 11:10 PM
Indeed, it worked perfectly for me with this address.

Well Hazy One (or David if you will), blaming the Canadian Plot (or any other geographically based hazard) is certainly a much clearer solution than talking about a "DNR node being down on port 23, thus preventing all Users logging from the IST protocol from reaching the channel. Sorry for the inconvenience, and enjoy your session chatting with our error Messages".

This aside, the Canadian plot is a theory advanced by Raging Deathstar in another thread, and so I shamelessly took his idea and made it mine. Now back to your regularly scheduled programmes, since I shouldn't really been highjacking this thread.
