Open source - similar to SEIV

Are there any open source projects that are similar to Space empires and if so can someone provide me with a link - all these civ clones but no Master of orion or Space empire themed games ie space 4x type explore, expand conqueor diplomacy etc.

There is an effort underway to start an Open Source Master of Orion clone. MOO 3 was such a disappointment that the fans just decided to take matters into their own hands. Go to www.freeorion.org (http://www.freeorion.org) and follow it yourself. It's just getting started.

Universe (http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/universe) is an old attempt at a 4X game written in Java, but it never really got very far, as far as I can tell... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif
