View Full Version : When was the Last time you built a ring world?
Atrocities

Something occured to me while I was reading another thread that made me think. I honestly cannot remember the Last time I made a ring world in a game of SEIV.
I can remember the wonder and awe I felt when I made my first ring world, and then later my first sphere world, but I have no clue as to the Last time I made a ring world.
One of the magicial things about SEIV is the ability to make planets out of asteroids, ring worlds, spherew worlds and warp across the map with warp point generators.
God I miss the simplicity of non modded, original SEIV gold. The races that came with the game, the wonder of discovering new technology, of exploring new systems and seeing new planets and wonders of the game for the first or hundreth time.
Now it all seems to be a blur, I honestly can't recall the Last time I played a simple basic game of stock SEIV using a stock race.
I love ring worlds, and if I was not so God awfully burned out on the game at the moment I would start a new game and go make me a ring world.

The Last time I made a Sphere/Ring world would have to be when RTH was still running. In that game I had 10+ already built with another 5+ on their way to being completed. Truely a great game!

RTH I had 12 sphere worlds going and 6 more almost complete

I've built a ring world in a solo game a long time ago. I was very proud of my achievement at the time, but now it wouldn't be so difficult!

I haven't done it in a while myself. I guess with FQM having ample 5-star systems, it got to be 'old hat' after a while.
In my current solo game, I own at least 3 5-star systems, maybe I'll start seeding bases again to build components....that's cool; having 5 SW's in 1 system... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

The only time I built a sphere world was in my first game, and that was towards the end. I don't recall building a ring world, though. I just haven't played any of my games since then that far. It's kind of hard too, when you got so many mods to choose from. Plus, it seems I'm getting less time to play on the computer right now. I'll have to make an effort to do so in the near future.

I can handle all the damaging WP's but not my bases/ships moving around willy-nilly. That's the only thing about FMQ I changed. I never built any Sphere or Ring World, for lack of the need to do so. (Well, in a regular game that is, I tried once to check how it was done)
Incidentally, I fail to see a reason why you would want to build a Sphere World. These require a *lot* of research points compared to Ring Worlds, and they require twice as much resources and build time than a Ring World. Besides, you would need fifty turns to outproduce a non-breathable ring world, and one hundred turns to have more facilities than a breathable ring world. So many turns are needed for this Sphere World to be more profitable than a Ring World.
So is there any reason why you would want to build a Sphere World, unless if you do happen to have few stars at your disposal? I admit I fail to see why you would want these. (Apart from trying to build the fabled Sphere World boasting 240 Cultural Centers. That is what I call a very strong planet indeed. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif )

I have built many sphere worlds but no ring worlds. Since we can't upgrade a ring world into a sphere world, I don't build until I've got sphere world technology. Don't want to use up the star by building a ring world which isn't as big as a sphere world. ...even though this may not always be the best strategy.

I've never built a ringworld or a sphere world.

I've never built one either. I started to in one PBW game, but it ended before I got the chance to finish it.

Well Atrocities .I built one In stock se4gold,AI diffuculty Medium ,turn base game, 25% Left to discover in unknown systems,1st place. By the time i built one and a few facilitys on it, made it my major Hub for ships, the game was mostly over,I pretty much destroyed all but 1 or 2 Ai empires http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif .Never had a chance to see what benefite this ringworld can do.Note: I never built a Sphereworld yet.

I have never had a game Last long enough for my sphere worlds to be completely full. It takes forever to build enough facilities to fill them up... or to get the population full.

I have three ringworlds in my latest solo proportions game. And the first of them is now less than 200 turns away from completing a cultural centre.
Now if I can just capture the Bobroban and Texrak homeworlds and transport all that population over I could probably knock a few dozen turns off that...
I've built loads of Ringworlds in Proportions and Devnullmod (never in stock, I don't think) and once I built a sphereworld, but I didn't like it- too ugly.
Maybe SE5 needs a picture somewhere showing the surface of the planet you have currently selected. Then us godlike imperial overlords could actually appreciate the inside of those monolithic constructions, instead of only seeing the dull, grey outside.

I always end up building ringworlds. I might stop doing it since apparently the computer (i mainly play SP) players don't do it.
So this would keep it more fair IMO.
But it's fun to build one.
Building more is even funier http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
