Is there anyway to slow down the rate of research throughout the game without editing each component? I can't find anything in the Settings.txt to edit %'s on Low, Medium, High technology costs.

Edit the Research Center.

That is the best solution. Want techs to take twice as long to research? Halve the research points generated by each research center. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Yes, but that is probably too fast for some people's tastes still. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif And, it does not affect the cost to research the first level of the tech, so really has no affect on the bulk of theoretical tech requirements.

Yes, setting the research cost to High do interesting things. Since colonization tech is level one and hence not affected by this setting, it becomes cheeper than APB VII, IIRC. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I find it easier in AI games to research early propulsion tech up to say level 3 - then when i come into contact with other races (say i have gas) and they have ice and rock colonisation types i trade a propulsion type and 5K of minerals for their colony type - that way they dont get the ability to colonise other than their default planet type but i do - because you can colonise planets in their systems that they cant and overwealm them quickly.

Just a nasty trick i play on the AI and later in the game i have a massive advantage. Also trading planet types say im oxygen, they are methane i trade their oxygen planet for one of my none atmosphere types and a chunk of resources (this usuually gets the trade approved) The AI isnt smart or diversified with its trading tactics - a weak spot in the game IMHO.

That way i get planets with able to build 25 facilities vs 5 and the AI is still left with a domed planet. And i can also use its native populations to colonize and repopulate methane planets (as above) to further max out those green star extra facilities native atmosphere types.

Isn't there a "Set research cost" option in the game setup menus which does a multiplier for all research cost figures?

I think the easiest way to slow down research is just to take a zero or two off the end of the research facs in Components.txt. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

This is why you should always play human opponents. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif AIs are stupid and easy to trick into defeat.
