Has MM been uploaded so we can download it from the main website - waiting patiently but getting annoyed might send em an email to boost things along.

no, Version 1.90 has only been out for beta testers a few hours ago and is now being tested.
It won't be available to everyone for a while.

So how can i become a beta tester ?
Rollo
February 12th, 2004, 02:22 AM
I don't think you can at this point. The application period to become a SE4 beta tester has long been passed. (remember, this game is old... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif )
but you can apply to become a SE5 beta tester, when the time comes (whenever that will be...)

I would have thought that the company would simply put the link and file up for download by Users to try it out and give feedback - i know a lot of other games do - with a disclaimer that they arent sure of its stability and the user downloads at their own risk.
It would probably generate more interest in the game and avoid us waiting 6 months for each update ?
Oh well sh!t happens i guess.

You are misunderstanding the process, but that's not surprising. We all originally signed onto a 'non-disclosure' agreement to become testers just like you'd expect. But then the 'leader' of the beta test process started posting these change logs in the public forum! This was a bit of a surprise since we'd signed non-disclosure agreements. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif Eventually, as you see happening now, even ordinary testers took it upon themselves to post these change logs since the 'official' representative of the company had been doing so all along.
So don't be tricked by the public notices. This is still a closed beta process -- I think? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif And there won't be any publicly downloadable patch until the main page here and at MM's own site announces it.

Non disclosure - im guessing that with each patch the company would just realise it for paying owners to download. Let them test it even you get more fan involvement that way - oh well i guess all dont operate the same way so we still wait longer for them to finish and update the game.

Well as Baron tried to explain, these aren't really patches. They are just steps in the process to developing a patch. The only thing a software company can do that's worse then not supporting a game is to release patches that make things worse then they were before. The beta process helps to prevent that by having a group of people test the changes to make sure no new bugs have crept into the code. Otherwise you get people screaming about how bad the company is because they released a "broken" patch.
Every company does this, it's just that normally the beta steps arent' announced to the public. And for exactly this reason. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Perhaps a seperate page for players or even a link into the forum where we can download the beta realises - and accept all the bugs - it could be an open beta testing thing where if we wanted in we would test it and then contribute feedback.
Id like to beta test if anyone can provide the patch or if someone from MM can send me an email at et_pj84 at hotmail dot com. (this will avoid spam bots sending me more spam ads)

Even when there are disclamers, people download the beta patches then scream when things don't work right. It gennerally isn't worth the hassle.

The longer the wait, the more fixes and additions in the next patch! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Besides, if the next patch is going to be the Last one, I'd prefer to wait until all the bugs are fixed before it's released.
Is it really true that the next patch will the the Last?

Yeah, but have you tried that approach to a screaming 3 year old who wants it NOW!!!!? I have, and it's not fun. And my wife is sometimes worse. She has no patience at all. I, on the otherhand, can be very patient. Or at least up to a certain point I can be. So I can wait another week or so for the next patch.

No no no! Aaron will be working so hard, that he will work up a sweat. But he is working so hard that so much heat is radiating that it will evaporate very quickly, as steam! Get it now? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Could it not be that Aarons sweat sprays onto the computer which is hot from running under hard strain, then the sweat evaporates the instant it hits the computer, creating visible steam??? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif

There has to be a way to make money off of that. Maybe an Olympic sport or something...
