Atrocities

Again, I cannot find a name for our universe just like I couldn't for the moon.
Any suggestions?
I vote we name the Universe Atrocities.

Our universe or our galaxy?
Our universe is our universe.
Our galaxy however, is called the Milky Way Galaxy. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Now I'm wondering if I should post a new thread titled "OT: Is Atrocities really Steven Wright?"
"What's another word for Thesaurus?" -- Steven Wright

I imagine we'll refer to our Universe as just the 'Universe' until we can confirm the existance of other Universes. At that point I'd expect us to start naming Universes like we name Hurricanes.

Could there be more than one universe? If we discover another big region of space that was previously unknown, wouldn't that area still be part of THIS universe?

The very definition of "universe" implies that it contains everything. If another region similar to what we call the universe were discovered, then the term "universe" would apply to both regions in total, and a new term would be needed to describe each sub-universe.

In string theory, the sub-universes are called "branes" (short for membranes).

There is a multitude of universes in the Multiverse.

It's like capnq says. I've also seen contexts where 'universe' refers to the observable universe. This can deteriorate into a semantic argument very easily.
