and another question why do you not want gas?

I cannot figure that one out. As resource deplete based on gathering...

Eliminate None or Gas and Balance becomes easier.

There's a bug in the game, when selecting "Bad" planet values, Gas get's large homeworlds while Ice and Rock get medium homeworlds. That's why the restriction.\

I'd like to play, but I'd want it to use a mod which balances the racial starting costs, like PvK Balance mod.

It might be worth considering disabling all trading, too, to eliminate tech trading, though I'd play even if that isn't disabled. (See this thread (http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=010894) ).

Might want to turn off surrender since you specify no quitters, and I've seen that need enforcing sometimes.

Sorry I let this sink so low, I can't seem to get to this forum often enough!

This game is still open. We're at 9 players total. I'd like to get this going, beginning of next week. Monday March 1st. ?

FQM is good if there is no damaging wp's or sectors.

But there would be way too many locations to mine from with FQM Standard.

I'm really fairly mod-stupid. Should I look up the Balance mod, or can someone run it down for me real quick?

Why 3 planets, instead of 5?

Now that it's been mentioned, no trading what-so-ever could be fairly cool. That would also eliminate any advantage gained from one teammate meeting another teammate more quickly than the other teams...

5 planets seems like a bit too many to start. Plus - you'll be throwing away all those resources at the beginning...

...and depending on the final number of players/map size - may provide little or no space to explore before first contact with other players.

Those sound good to me.

As for Balance Mod, it makes no changes other than to adjust the point costs for creating your empire, so that many more choices are competetive. You actually have to spend a fair number of points for your advantages - it is no longer an obvious choice to max combat skills, take berzerk, and minimize Physical Strength - all the costs should be more or less right, and taking the best of all the most important things is either not possible, or you'd need to minimize lots of other things. See the description at the mod's home page, which is in my signature below.

I do not like trading population or tech...


But I do like later on in the game selling ships... selling resources... I can abide by any rule set up....

Problem is if you can trade, you can analyze what is traded, and so there is a huge incentive to do complementary research trades with others.

I'm still waiting for my copy of the original Gold cd before I can upgrade to patch 4. Does anyone know if I can create my emprie with what I already have or if I should wait til I can upgrade?

yes, I've got a copy of 1.84 with PVK installed.

I think you should be able to create an empire using 1.84 and either Version of the Balance mod, and it should work in 1.91 with either Version of the Balance mod. AFAIK, neither patch 4 nor the Balance mod have Version differences that affect empire files at all.

Trollstomper dumped, and some guy that I'd never heard of before took his spot. That guy did not respond to my emails, so I kicked him.

We need 1 more player, if anyone is interested. Check the first post in this thread for a link to the game, with a description of the rules.

We can start within 24 hours of a good join, and proper empire submission.
