I've now heard from two sources that Lucas is going to release the original Star Wars trilogy in September. Hot diggity damn!! One source is the manager of the Suncoast Motion Picture. NOw, I know some of you didn't think too much of him on his views of the Battlestar Galactic mini-series, but I find him a good source for info on movies. Also, I have a friend who works at Blockbuster Video, and he just sent me an e-mail with the same info. So, without surfing the net to confirm this, I'm taking their words that we'll be watching Star Wars 4, 5, & 6 before Hallowen. I can't wait.

Narf: Nope. Just buy a TV and DVD player. COmputers are made to play games on. Like SE IV and UT 2k4. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Sounds like you just need to fiddle with the DVD and/or TV settings, Narf, or if that fairls, to get another DVD player.

My gripes with DVD are that many players fail to have useful slo-mo or scan modes, and that digital TV images tend to have visible pixelation and jaggy effects which analog tapes or films don't have, which messes up some scenes.

Of course it's been out on VHS multiple times before.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Star Wars Trilogy," one of the most-requested DVD episodic film franchises, is expected to be released as a four-disc DVD box set Sept. 21, with a global rollout on DVD expected within days of the domestic release, according to Lucasfilm Ltd. and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.

The trilogy featuring the classic franchise films Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi will be released on three DVD discs, with a fourth disc likely to hold a newly made documentary about the "Star Wars" franchise and never-before-seen footage, among several other bonus materials, said Jim Ward, Lucasfilm's vp marketing and distribution and the DVD trilogy's executive producer.<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">- from THIS (somewhat annoying) site. Am I missing something or has not the StarWars been out for many years on VHS? Or are you brainwashed suckers now getting excited about the privilage of paying to 'upgrade' to DVD?? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Personally I look forward to the release of the original trillogy. Sure for the movies themselves, but I'm hoping that there will be a whole bunch of 'Extra' behind the scenes stuff and perhaps some of the deleted scenes and out-takes.

My big worry is that it will sell for something like $100. I hope they release this at the same price target as the Indy trillogy. $54.95 for a trillogy of movies is fair.

September eh? Hmmm, I wonder at what turn we'll be in the NGC4 game? hmmm.

Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

They won't be releasing the original again, it was the Last time for the originals (the Last time), I think.

My gripe with DVDs is simplier. No fast forward! Or rewind, for that matter.

Most players do have a kind of fast forward or rewind, although it's not quite like a VCR machine. I got 2 dvd players and a PS2. Both of the regular players have a fast forward, and although I haven't really tried it, I think both of them have a reverse. I know on the PS2, that you can skip back and forth between chapters (I know, because I watch my 3 year old do it all the time when he's watching a movie). I wouldn't go back to a vcr for anything, even though I do have a tv/vcr combo and a dvd/vcr combo. My wife can buy tapes for my kid. I'll hold out for the dvd's.

actually these ones will be a reissue of those movies that came out a couple of years ago. With Lucas's new spin on the movies. And then some additional changes as he re writes the Star Wars movies to what he feels is better.

Such as Han Solo is a good guy.

And the fact that he fired first against Gecko (?) in Star wars has been changed to that he fired back. Cause good guys don't shoot first.

Wonder what other changes he has in place ?

I think Lucas did it because of his kids, but I think he should have kept it like it origanally was, to show that Han is a little bit of a scoundrel, which is one reason why Leia fell in love with him. Keep the original scene, George. It was fine like it was!!

Thank goodness the trilogy will be out *just in time* for the holiday season.

quote:
The fourth disc will be for bonus features, including what the companies described as "the most comprehensive feature-length documentary ever produced about the `Star Wars' saga" and archive footage from the making of all three films. ... The Versions on DVD will feature only the special editions, LucasFilm spokeswoman Lynn Hale said.
