Hi all,

first, I love this game, I´ve ordered it from germany for 60 bucks, and its worth every cent. Its really DEEP. The mods of people like Mephisto and others are awesome. Great work.

See, I have this nice light carrier group. And occasionally they run out of fighters ... damn PD http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon12.gif

Is it possible to take a freighter and let him load all the new fighters from one system automagically , and then deliver the fighters to my carriers ?

Please ?

That is an idea I have never thought of. As far as I know, that would work. You would have to keep from launching the fighters and do a cargo transfer from the planet to the transport, then move the transport from the planet too your carriers and cargo transfer the fighters to the carrier. Remember that you can't launch are recover fighters with a cargo bay.

Thanks, but I want my freighter to do it without me loading every fighter, move to the next loading location, load every fighter, etc. ..

I´d like to automate this task.

A way too do that might be to use the load cargo button, select the planet and fighters, the use the button again and repeat the procces again and then use the drop cargo button and select the fleet and ship you want to drop the cargo at. I've found that you can give ships a list of orders and they will move down that list starting with the first one given. As for the automation thing, I don't know of a way to that. Mabye they will put that in a later patch.

Either before or after doing what Mako said, click the Repeat Orders button.

So it would be something like:

(Repeat Orders)
Load Cargo Fighters at Sol II
Drop Cargo Fighters at Capella IV

Make sure you have lots of cargo space at the destination (a forward base where your fleet is). I've used medium transports as auxilliary carriers and they can hold several hundred fighters. You'll be hard-pressed to drop them all on a planet without cargo facilities (well, assuming it's domed).

Thanks guys ...

Will try your tips. BTW, is it possible that ships "lose" their orders ? I dont mean the order snafu from the intelligence.

Have you tried sending a space yard ship along with them and having it build new fighters in the field? I'm not sure if it will deposit them directly into the ships, but I believe that they can. If it works I'll have to try it myself.

it plops them in any ship with an open cargo container.

Kewl. I normally send ships with repair facilities with my strike forces, but I'll have to experiment with ship yards instead. It should make my carriers more effective as I too run out of fighters for them.

Top of the left column (Not the left-hand navigation) is the heading "High Score Contests." One is a link to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, and the other, with a B/W image of a Phrong Drednaught is a link that goes here: http://www.twingalaxies.com/cgi-perl/se4_championship.pl

And it's labled "Space Empires IV World Championship"

Everyone has a way to meet the need of a carrier group. I choose to equip mine with a construction ship. That way as the fighters are used up, I can replace them within a few turns local to my fleet. Then just do a transfer.

It works for me, but my play style is drastically differant than yours I suspect. Any who, good luck.

I send at least one C&C ship and a repair ship with every fleet. I like to send two of each with large fleets so I can then split the fleet when it enters a hot area and needs a little more mobility.

including a construction ship would certainly be viable for a carrier group, and would also replace the repair ship resulting in similar costs and increased efficiency. I might have thought of that myself, if I used carriers more.

I think one of your questions got lost... "Is it possible for ships to lose their orders"?

YES. Actually, there's a game option for this; you can have ships clear their orders automatically when they enter a system with other empires present, or with enemies present. I usually turn both those options off, but the sentry order gets cleared anytime an enemy enters the system anyway (which is probably intentional, since the point of a sentry is to wait for enemies and warn the emperor/attack the enemies).
