If I have 300 dreadnoughts, unfortunately in enemy territory and not at home.
I live on trade incomes solely and looses my few remaining planets, so I have no planets left, what happens?

If my planets where to be cut off from contact with the rest by wormhole closing I'd loose contact with the other races and loose my trade income. Will that happen also if I loose all my planets?

Might be worth building a few colonisers as well. Even if there's nothing to colonise, they might come in handy soon.

Or better yet, troop transports. If you're running out of planets... steal someone else's=-)

However, you lose contact with all other races, even if you can see them. I had about 15 bases in a limited resources game, but when I lost the Last planet, I was cut off. In another game, after losing all of my planets, I even colonized an empty planet but could never regain contact with any other empire. It is a very good idea to avoid this situation. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

I have seen races regain contact after losing all planets. you have to re-establish contact manually, by having mutual line of sight between ships or planets.

if you cant get back to defend your planets, or its strategically unviable - and your 300+ DNs are important to you allies, have them give you a little moon or something, and of course have them keep gifting you enough resources to pay your maintainance. keep in mind that resource storage will be a problem once your planets are gone, so maybe have them give you some storage facilities, or build them as soon as they give you a planet.

I recruited a trusted ally to defend my remaining systems (and kill off the intruders) and will divert all my dreads into the territory of the race that are hitting me with intel attacks (And subverting my planets).
I need to take territory to build more intel facilities, and by glassing his planets the intel attacks will diminish!

It won't work. Admit you have lost.

Btw, what do you people think of my plan B?
If I see that I'm about to loose my Last planets, I decided I'll give all those ships to one of my former enemies, who has stopped attacking me and now have a trade treaty with me, rather than having the ships stolen by intel attacks by an even worse enemy or being lost to maintnace shortage if I loose my planets...

It would propably tip the balance in his favour and give him the victory in this game, but I would see it as a well earned victory as he has played the diplomatic card better than his counterparts...

(I hope someone sees the subtle hint here and starts to make amends...if he want's to keep that little fleet that has irresponsibly found it's way into my territory... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif )

Plan B is ok. Losing them to maintenance problems is a legitmate issue if you are depending on trade income. But if you are just worried about losing them to intel attacks, you don't need to. Once you lose your Last planet the enemy can no longer attack you with intel because they they lose diplomatic contact.

Never give up, never surrender. If you can't defend, kill everything in sight. If you go, take as many with you as possible. Hehehehe http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Ruatha,
Re your plan B
When you are out, you should be out. The spoils of war should either go to the winner, beeing dismantled or be left for the AI. Giving the ships away and throwing the game as a goodbye gift is a ****ty thing to do (IMHO).

Yeah, go out fighting. You can only lose one ship a turn to maintenance lack, so 300 ships = 300 turns of carnage!

Besides, if you lose all of you planets you can't gift your ship to an ally, since you won't have contact.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">What???
I've lost more than one ship a turn to resource failure.
I think I could loose many,many ships a turn!

From my enemy...

"Here is Our offer: You will be ready to turn over 100 of your good warships to Us and We will agree to a Non-Aggression treaty. In addition, We (nor Our ally) will attack you, nor will We requests others to attack you, for a period of 2 years. Until We receive a message from you agreeing to this, We will treat your vows to attack and destroy Us as your continued intention, and will react as such."

It's Messages like these that tempts me to do ****ty things like Plan B below http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
(I've tried to get a T/R treaty for a long time now, that's my vows to attack and destroy....) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif

I think I'll just go out in flames and burn him to kingdom come with my Last breath!! ... or Plan B...

That’s a cool offer. 20 turns of peace does sound like a good deal for 100 ships. You should have plenty of time to either get on his good side or to rebuild your fleet. Remember; in 20 turns he would have paid approx. 3 times the initial value of the ships in maintenance if he decides to save them for use against you. Of course; If you have other enemies, you gonna get smoked http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Going down in flames is also a cool option.

You already know my opinion of plan B http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

If I agreed what would stop all the others from requesting the same and starting to attack me if I didn't comply???

No, this turn I'll start attacking his planets until he stops his intel attacks.
