I am so mad right now I am seeing double! I got my baby back from the vet two weeks ago, he went in to get neutered and de-clawed. Today I had to take him to my regular vet (they don’t do the above) because I noticed he was acting strange. Not only did they find a flea on him but he also tested positive for tape worm. I'm sure there's someone you can call to check if there have been any other complaints about that particular Vet; somthing similar to the Better Business Bureau. Maybe the local animal shelter would know.

In any case, I hope your kitty is fine. When one of our cats contracted crystals in his urinary tract, I just about freaked. He was bleeding lightly from down below, but when the doc at the local Cat Hospital took him out of his cage and sat him onto the exam table, he gushed out blood and urine like someone turned on a water tap and then turned it off again. That wasn't easy to see. Fortunately he's alright now. And thank god the Cat Hospital is just around the corner from where we live.

He will be ok but I am going to check into that advice Katchoo. I had the same thought but have not had time to yet; most likely I will have to wait till Monday. I am glad to hear that your cat made it, I don’t know what I would do if my buddy got that ill. Giving him the pill was not all that bad, he was mad at me but he gets spoiled so much he thought it was just another “love on me” session, by the time he knew better it was all over.

On the subject of giving a cat a pill, someone posted a real funny joke on that procedure here on these Boards, but I can't find it with a search. Little help guys?

I saw a friend of mine, with deep purple gashes on his arms and chest. He tried to put his cat in the carrier for the first time for his move -- without opening the carrier first. Clearly, he's never given his cat a pill.

How to give a cat a pill:

1. Pick cat up and cradle it in the crook of your left arm as if holding a baby. Position right forefinger and thumb on either side of cat's mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand. As cat opens mouth pop pill into mouth. Allow cat to close mouth and swallow.

2. Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa. Cradle cat in left arm and repeat process.

3. Retrieve cat from bedroom, and throw soggy pill away.

4. Take new pill from foil wrap, cradle cat in left arm holding rear paws tightly with left hand. Force jaws open and push pill to back of mouth with right forefinger. Hold mouth shut for a count of ten.

5. Retrieve pill from goldfish bowl and cat from top of wardrobe. Call spouse from garden.

6. Kneel on floor with cat wedged firmly between knees, hold front and rear paws. Ignore low growls emitted by cat. Get spouse to hold head firmly with one hand while forcing wooden ruler into mouth. Drop pill down ruler and rub cat's throat vigorously.

7. Retrieve cat from curtain rail, get another pill from foil wrap. Make note to buy new ruler and repair curtains. Carefully sweep shattered ornaments from hearth and set to one side for gluing later.

8. Wrap cat in large towel and get spouse to lie on cat with head just visible from below armpit. Put pill in end of drinking straw, force mouth open with pencil and blow down drinking straw.

9. Check the label to make sure pill not harmful to humans, drink beer to take taste away. Apply band-aid to spouse's forearm and remove blood from carpet with cold water and soap.

10. Retrieve cat from neighbor's shed. Drink another beer then get another pill. Place cat in cupboard and close door onto neck to leave head showing. Force mouth open with dessert spoon. Flick pill down throat with eLastic band.

11. Fetch screwdriver from garage and put door back on hinges. Drink large tumbler of whisky to take away pain. Apply cold compress to cheek and check records for date of Last tetanus jab. Throw Tee shirt away and fetch new one from bedroom.

12. Ring fire brigade to retrieve the bloody cat from tree across the road. Apologize to neighbor who crashed into fence while swerving to avoid cat. Take Last pill from foil-wrap.

13. Tie the little bastards front paws to rear paws with garden twine and bind tightly to leg of dining table, find heavy duty pruning gloves from shed, pry cat's mouth open with small spanner.

Push pill into mouth followed by large piece of fillet steak. Hold head vertically and pour a pint of water down throat to wash pill down.

14. Get spouse to drive you to the emergency room, sit quietly while doctor stitches fingers and forearm and removes pill remnants from right eye. Call at furniture shop on way home to order new table. Arrange for RSPCA to collect cat and ring local pet shop to see if they have any hamsters.

How to give a dog a pill:

Our cat is currently taking furball medicine. To give it to here we just smear it on her paws and she goes off and licks it off. I am told to give her pills we hold her mouth open, put the pill in and stroke her throat so she swallows. From what I see maybe we just have a nice cat, although sometimes I am patting her and she seems to like it but after a while she gets bored and shows it by suddenly biting my hand.

In fact my female cat is known by the flea community as the Party Barge.

If they injest a flea, they will develop worms. That is just the sick arse way God set them up to be.

She has worms and no matter what I do, she will always have the disgusting little white rice like buggers popping out at the most incredibly ackward times.

They for the most part are harmless to us, but still it is digusting to say the least.

As for fleas, we get a pack of liquid drops from the vet. you put a drop or two on the rear of her neck and its good against fleas for 2-3 months each application. better the flea collar and other junk. just spread the hair on the rear of her neck and drop on the drops.. easy, quick and you don't have to go to the emergency room to get yourself repaired afterwords http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I am using the liquid for the fleas now, but until this we have not had this problem. I was mad because I expected more from a vet, especially when I let them do surgery on my baby! That is my youngest Kaylen and the one next to her is my son Jr, what a boy, I love him to death.

GET IT FROM YOUR VET! And if your cat starts to ack weird TAKE IT TO THE VET!

That shi- Crap is very dangerous and toxic to many cats. Even cats that have had it for a while with no reaction can develop an elurgic response to it. It is fatal if not treated and even then it is iffy.

And finally, found at a drainage gutter on a rainy day, I present Taffey. She weighed 4.5 pounds when we picked her up and took her to the vet. The best the doc could figure, she was between 6 - 9 months old. Grease, blood, and gook of unknown origin coated her long hair. $150 later, she is much happier, has NO desire to go outside, but has her own problems from her "life on the streets". She has continual ear infections that require regular treatement, walks with a limp, and it seems like her head is at a permanent tilt...as if something happened to her neck. Grown and at an age of 5 years, she has never weighed more than 9 pounds. Smallest adult cat I've ever had. But one of the biggest lovers and most friendly to all the kids. (and sometimes, like other cats, she forgets that her tongue is hanging out).

Man I am glad to hear you and your wife saved that cat Slynky. We have people dropping off cats and dogs around here all the time. Most of the time we find homes for them, but a few don't make it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif I hate people who drop off animals in the woods and think they will survive. They are city yuppies with no clue as to how the real world works.

I am happy to say that since I gave Tom those pills (Friday) he has returned to his old self; hiding around corners waiting for me and the kids to pass by so he can leap out and attack the back of our legs. I still feel guilty that I did not take him into our regular vet sooner, I just keep telling myself that his lying around was from the surgery and that he would return to his old self soon. I should have followed my instincts and had him checked out.

Tom is our first cat, before this we always had a dog. Now our family is solid cat lovers. I am happy to hear that you saved that cat Slynky, I too have seen far to many cats dropped off by city folk in the middle of parks or out in the country where I grew up. Not just cats but dogs too. It always made me mad but what could you do when they had long since driven off?

When my wife and I were moving back to Canada, we needed to get our cat Spoogy the proper certificate so we could bring him with us. So we went to the vet and he got his check-up and latest shots. Long story short, he ended up picking up an infection there and we had to come back and get anti-biotics for him.

In another cat related story, one of my partents' cats (well, used to be our family cat) Misty, was recently diagnosed with oral cancer (she was almost 16 and still very feisty!). It was really a tough decision to put her down, but it was getting really bad and painful for her, not to mention she couldn't eat very much. She used to hate going to the vet and riding in the car, but the Last journey was really calm and she was really cooperative with the vet right up to the end like she knew it was time to go. I feel for you CK. I know what it is like to have to make that decision. Princers was only 7 when he became gravely ill. It was such a strong cat, all muscle and handsome as he was friendly. Having him put down is still one of the most painful moments in my life.

Yep, I was amazed at how sad it was for me to carry my 13-year-old Siamese to the vet for the Last time. He got sick and 2 different vets couldn't figure out what was wrong but that his kidneys were failing. So, you ask yourself...did I poison him without thinking? Do I do this by letting him walk on carpet that had had been treated with "Carpet Fresh" powder (and vaccuumed up), was it possibly letting him walk on a freshly mopped tile floor that had Lysol on it? Did he stray into some insect spray I had used on ants or something?

You see, when you get a cat, you take the responsibility for that living creature's life. These days, I don't put stuff on the carpet (it can smell less than fresh as far as I care). Mopping is done with a mild soap cleaner. And if I have to spray for ants or something, I lock the cats in a room for the day...till it dries. You see, in their own way, they trust me.

all 3 of our cats were strays. 1 was dumped in front of my kids grade school when he was only 6 weeks old, of course guess who ended up bringing him home http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif , 1 was obtained from a cat shelter where they rescue abandon cats, and the 3rd was dumped off where I worked when she was only 2 months old... We keep all 3 in the house and the only time they are allowed out they are put and tied up on a leash where we can watch them. But it also seems that every stray cat dumped in our neighborhood eventually finds their way to our house. Currently been feeding one all winter, found homes for 3 others sigh... 3 are plenty for now. each has their own personality thats for sure, the male likes to play marbles (even waits his turn, hits the marble, sits back and waits again, plays tag and hide and seek. all very lovable. Also had over the yrs to put down 2 due to sickness. I agree a very hard thing to do.

I posted the images to the same website as the Ratings are kept on. And, as far as I know, everyone can see that website.

All I do is link to the image that I uploaded there. Alneyan had the same problem and he changed a "slash" or something.

I don't want to step on any toes but if there will be no "cats of SEIV" host, I would consider hosting a "cat" page on the Ratings site. I don't suppose it would have to be limited to "rated" cats ( http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif ). But I would set out a format for a submission if people were interested. You know, like picture size, forum name, caption length...stuff like that.

I feel very sorry to learn about your friend. I really LOVE cats (I share my house with eleven of them!) and I feel very sad when I see a suffering cat, let alone to know about it no longer with us... I like all animals, but I don´t know exactly why, cats are my favourite by far...

Thanks Atrocities. I'm someone who loves cats, so it's especially painful when one dies, especially in an accident like this one.

Not sure it applies but cats on a farm are usually good sense. They're more of useful animal instead of a pet (though that doesn't mean people don't get attached to them). Cats in a more domestic setting (which is what I'm used to) have a bad habit of crawiling under the car in the driveway or near the motor when they are left outside and its cold. Cats just "get in the way" sometimes and require an "extra eye".

I no longer let my cats go outside (and haven't done so for over 20 years).

Slynky, you're right. They are a useful ranch animal, they keep the mice out of the grain (and out of the house). But yeah, it's kinda hard to not become attached to them.

Reminded me of my cat who was a farm cat, well kitten I suppose, before we got her. It was just ridiculous seeing a tiny ball of fluff on top of a huge pile of hay bales jump down to the floor then walk off unconcerned.
