I need help. In my mod for some strange reason I have tiny planets being orbited by large ones. This is a serious problem because players are starting on whatever planet is considered the primary. I am having players starting on tiny planets because it thinks the planet it is supposed to be on is a moon! HELP! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif

Now you have really messed something up. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
(Sorry, couldn't help to take a cheap shot at this. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif )

But that's so badass. Instead of starting on a planet the size of Jupiter you are starting on Endor or something like that.
It makes resource management that much more critical. That would be a cool PBW type of game.

My mod has already increased the difficulty of resource management. To put it simply, starting on a tiny planet you cannot even build a colony ship and are doomed.

The game doesn't do any physics. In other words if you specify the moon first in the system file it WILL be listed as the primary planet even though it is smaller.

I’m not a 100% sure on this but if the planets do not share the same ring positions you should not get any moons. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I don't want to get rid of the moons. I just want to find out why the moons are messing up so I can fix them.

Planets in the same ring are only placed in the same sector if every spot in that ring is already filled. It is this line that makes moons:
"Obj 10 Position := Same As 7"
I suggest changing the description to something like "TEST SYSTEM" for one system, generate a map, see if that system is causing tiny HWs. Do this until you find all systems that are making tiny HWs. The system you posted looks fine to me.

That still doesn't explain why the tiny moon becomes the main planet, and is selected for homeworld. I know of problems with medium-sized moons in FQM, but this seems to be something different?

In the very first Star Trek Final Frontier game I started on a moon. That sucked bottom, but I kept playing and was soon reward. I was conquered by the Borg.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will have to test these things out. The reason the tiny planet is chosen for the homeworld I have found is because the the tiny planet is primary. All the other planets have XII A or XII B etc. I have seen systems where the size of orbiters is reversed, going from tiny to huge. I spent hours looking at the files and all of the system entries look just as functional as that one I posted. I have found no cause for this glitch. For the time being I have limited starting players to systems with no moons.
