View Full Version : Environmental Resistance ? Exactly what is it?

Can anyone tell me what benefit this trait gives? Is my growth rate larger? Having looked through the paper and CD manual, I can't find any info on this basic racial ability.

Its pretty much how well your people can take the environment of a planet. Your hardy people won't mind that Harsh planet much.

i.e. They will not get angry for a while longer.

Now that was an old thread (January 2001). As found in the FAQ, Environmental Resistance affects both Reproduction and Happiness: every five points in ER corresponds to one point of Reproduction and Happiness.
ER is pretty much worthless because of that, except to get more points: you can lower Environmental Resistance and increase Reproduction to compensate (and Happiness if you really want, but that characteristic has very few actual effects).

There's a guide to min-maxing somewhere on Fyron's site, www.spaceempires.net (http://www.spaceempires.net)
He'll undoubtably drop by later to give the exact link. He's predictable and nice like that.

Actually the Environmental Resistance effects production and happiness as it was explained to me many years ago. The lower the populations resistance to a planet the slower they will reproduce, the angerier they will be, and slower they will produce.

The direct link is here (http://www.spaceempires.net/home/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=1) Narf.
Atrocities, the effect you describe is linked to the +/- 5 points in ER = +/- 1 point in Happiness/Reproduction rule. Lowering Environmental Resistance does lower Reproduction and Happiness (very midly, as 45% happiness is not enough to start losing happiness), resulting in lower reproduction rates, which can be offset by raising Reproduction.
Note, however, that happiness does not affect construction rates, as you seem to be implying in the last part of your post (unless they are rioting, in which case they simply do not produce). Happiness does lower the amount of resources producted however (80% for Angry colonies, 120% for Jubilant colonies).

Thank you Alneyan. It was my intention to describe that the lower the ER the lower the reproduction and happiness would be. As a result of lower happiness, resource production would be effected.
As a result of lower population growth, the planet would take longer to reach its optimal shipyard production rate. The bonus you get when you reach X population on a planet.

By that reasoning, large transports would be the ultimate build rate and resource extraction booster.

How so? Moving population around does not seem to the be the AI's cup of tea. It has been my experience that the AI will move populations around without regard to building up populations http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif Then agian, how often to do I play that I can say this conclusively.
