What do they do? I check the Newbie Faq and they arent listed there. Do they only prevent plagues on the planet they are placed? (that would be useless!)

Anyhow the gist is this, I have one Med Lab II In every system I control right now. on turn X i get a message 'new virus detected' blah blah blah, will turn into level II plague. Ok, so double check my system, yep got a level II Med Lab which prevents/ (cures?) level 2 plauges. Anyhow I upgrade it to level III just in case. 3 Turns later I get the plague message, level II plague has broken out etc. I double check my planet, and yes, upgreaded to Level III Med lab.

Next turn the planets population expired from the plague http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif Any ideas?

They don't actually prevent plague, they just cure it one turn after it breaks out.

If the plague is of a level that can be cured by the Medical Lab, it will cure it, after one turn of effect from the plague affects the planet. Medical Labs (the Organic Race facility) can cure plagues anywhere in the same system. Medical Bays (the ship component) can only cure plagues in the same sector. Both component and facility cure plagues automatically.

1.1.1.2.2 Gestation Vats - increases the percentage for reproduction rate in system. Replicant Center - increases population by an additional fixed amount each turn in system. Medical Lab - prevents plagues in system (actually cures plagues, but this occurs 1 turn after plague hits so you still receive 1 turn's worth of plague damage), increases the percentage for reproduction rate in system, increases happiness in system.

In the standard game, only a level 1 plague results from a random event, it doesn't progress to level 2 or above -- SE4 isn't written to model biological processes.

If you got a level 2 plague, you were hit with a level 2 plague bomb, wielded by a human opponent.

If he researched that far, he may go farther, and the medical lab only goes up to level 3. You'll need medical bays on ships, they progress to match the plague bombs.
