Hi I was thinking about trading in SEIV and how it bothers me that an empire with 1 planet can receive tons of trade from an empire with 100 planets...
What I propose is that the game would calculate the 2 values that each empire would receive in trade and then take the lowest one and give it to both empires.
What are you thoughts in this. I will be sending the suggestion out next week.

A decent idea, but this only scratches the surface of 'realism' to be added to the SE treatment of resources and trade. Blockaded planets ought to only have locally available resources (produced on place) for production purposes, for example. Oh, and living beings (population) need to actually use FOOD (organics) -- unless they are mechanoids, and then they should use minerals. At the least we need the option to turn this on in the game.
Trade between empires should require direct contact (a directly adjacent system) or a special treaty ('right of passage') from the intervening empire(s).
The whole treaty system needs to be revised, of course. No more of this rigid scale of non-aggression, trade, trade & research, etc. Each options should be completely independent. If I want ONLY to trade intelligence points with someone but NOT grant them the right to send ships running all over my territory I ought to be able to do this.

Would make for much greater realism in regards to trade. As you say, Baron, just because I need resources and establish a trade treaty for them, does not mean I have granted you permission to colonize in my systems or bypass my mined warp points and other such territorial defenses. My space is exactly that, MY space.

And...
For those situations where you want to give lots of resources to an ally there ought to be a 'foreign aid' treaty that just gifts so much resources (or even research points or intel points) per turn.
