A friend of mine and I are trying to do a multiplayer TCP/IP game but, when I try to connect to his computer to play, I can't find it. I also can not ping it.

I am behind both a firewall and a router and he has a firewall up to so, we dropped the FWs and tried again but still..nothing.

My question is, why can I go out onto the internet but, I can't seem to find his computer at all? Do I have to do something special?

Also, the IP address the router gives my computer is not the real IP addy which is assigned to the router..how would I go about getting THAT IP number?

You can go to: http://www.all-nettools.com/toolbox
and do a Proxy Test. It should tell your outer IP address.

Yep, that gave the IP I think though, it looked very wrong...8/

Now, any idea why I can't get through the router to play a game?

This thread (http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=59;t=000011#000007) should be a good starting point. If you still can not get it to work, ask more questions. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Many, many thanks...will bookmark it for reference for tonights attempt.

I bought a copy for my bud and he is enjoying the TDM mod and single player but, has yet to fight multiplayer...heh. I've been enjoying the SE series since SE 2...snicker.

Yeah, he knows he is going to hear bells for a long time while I school him on how to surrender or be purged... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

At least if we can get the TCP/IP to work.
