Not sure but I think it is graphics in general.

Yes, the limit on the number of graphics in a message has always been 8. Not just smileys. URL referenced graphics of any sort.

Well, there are 11 different smilies that are available here (without linking to an external image). So the number of possible combination should be 11^8. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Ok, I'll test again, with more than 8 of the same image... but I got it before with 9 smileys, and several were repeats...

It only lets me do 8 total, of ANY image. I tried ten and it gave me the error message.

And I seem to remember using each smiley at least once in a posting about a year or two ago...
