What is it that an AS targets when attempting to subvert a ship? Is it the Bridge, life support, or crew quarters? If a ship has a Master Computer AND conventional ship control, can it still be subverted? If so, would it have to have a bridge, life support and Crew quarters? Or only whatever it is that an AS targets?

AS has no affect on MS's.

Thanks. Found a work-around.

Thanks again.

Was that 1.91?
I thought it changed in an earlier one.

Also, does the AS ability work on Fighters?

If a carrier with fighters on board is converted (as in a WP assault), the fighters are converted too. They then launch.

Otherwise I think not, but check the targeting list for the AS. If it says "Ship" only then they are safe. If "Ship/Fighter/Drone" they can be caught. I don't remember any battles I fought getting fighters converted once launched.

What I meant to ask was if a weapon with the AS ability could be put on a fighter, would it work?

Indeed, you can mod an Allegiance Subverter as a fighter weapon.

Remember that fighter weapons stack, though, so the percentage chance to subvert will be the the damage per subverter times the number of subverters per fighter times the number of fighters in your fighter stack. So a default sized stack of 5 fighters each equipped with 1 AS doing 1 damage would have a 5% chance to subvert, while a stack of 100 of the same type of fighters (say, launched from a planet) would be guaranteed to subvert (assuming the weapon actually hit).

edit: hmm, what else stacks that would be interesting to play around with? Seekers stack, so I guess you could put Crew ConVersion on a seeker, it MIGHT work... Satellite and WP weapons don't stack; with troops it's irrelevant because troops can't be converted... Drones don't stack, but a drone can have multiple warheads and I think those stack... either that or each applies separately, which gives diminishing returns with the probabilities (50% + 50% = 75% if they apply separately, 50% + 50% = 100% if they stack directly) ... Mines, hmm, that would be interesting, mines that steal your crew! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Can you mod the AS to be ineffective if the player has shields?

no, unless you give shield generators the master computer ability. but that brings on a whole bunch of other problems, not to mention the fact that you are still AS immune untill that component is killed, not just until your shields are down.

Okay, work around time:

Can a boarding party be given a range?

Interesint crew converting minefields - interesting.

Boarding happens when your ship is next to the target, and since it involves no actual weapon fire, you cannot alter the distance at which boarding takes place.

However, you may want to put an extended range tracter weapon to be used in boarding attempts. The weapon will pull the target towards the boarders, giving your boarding parties a virtually longer range.
