Hi, I was just wondering is their an option to set which weapons you want your ships ministers to use on the ships it creates, like in SE3 (you could select beam or missile/point defense)

Welcome to the forum.

To answer your question, no. There is no way to set the weapon load out for ministers from in side of the game.

However, you can do it by modding the game. Whole new concept requiring you to mod that races construction, vehicles, research, and maybe one or two other files. Really its easy, just a bit combersome.

Well, I'd start by copying the race AI closest to what you want overall.
( Look in se4/pictures/races )
Then change the weapon family numbers listed in the AI_designcreation.txt to whichever ones you want.
(Look up the numbers in components.txt)

Make yourself a custom AI the designs almost what you want, then edit and tweak it to the situation at hand.
