I have told my AI to build more base space yards so it can build enough ships to give me a run for my money. And it does. I have to fight to stay alive. Then all of a sudden I experience a sever drop in pressure from the Xiati that had been giving some serious grief. So I set to human control to see what's going on. And what do I see? They have scrapped all their 14(!) base space yards to build new ones based on the Battlestation hull! And loaded to the brim with shields they are too so it will take them forever to build the damn things! Needless to say I walked right over them after that, even though I waited a couple of years to give them time to get back on their feet. I was busy with the Ukra-Taal anyway.
Why oh why does the AI have to always build the biggest there is of everything? Someone should tell it that big is not always good damn it!

And another questain why even scrap space yards? It can't be a space issue they are in orbit. They could always be upgraded so being obsolete isn't a reason. And the maintaince is lower for bases so you probably won't save very much by scrapping them anyway.

You can put a maximum tonnage in the design for the Base Space Yards. I usually put something like 500 or 600 (just in case for some future mod). That will prevent them from scrapping them. I use it on Sergetti (although they don't build that many space yards).

Daynarr, you are a lifesaver! http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif Now all I have to do is find the time and go through all the AI files and tweak that. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon9.gif

Daynarr,
What design file of yours are you talking about? Thanks.

He's talking about Default_AI_DesignCreation.txt or XXX_AI_DesignCreation.txt
