In looking at all the settings files for the races I found every single one of them have "PEACEFUL" for their HAPPINESS type.
It seems many of them should have been bloodthirsty or even neutral. Is there a reason MM did this? Please someone help me understand this. Thanks!

That's real strange, because my game is patched and they're all peaceful...
What do you think is going on?

This isn't a problem. All this does is change when their people get happy. On the peaceful setting your people like it when you found a new colony, when you make a trade agreement, and things like that. Bloodthirsty races only enjoy war and killing. Making the AI aggressive but with a peaceful happiness type is perfectly reasonable if it will be spending more time expanding than fighting. Especially since the combat rewards for happiness only apply to the planets in the system where combat occurs.
The problem is only the name. Peaceful should be renamed "Civilization/expansion," Bloodthirsty should be renamed "warrior," and neutral should be renamed, "Does nothing ever." <-- That was sarcasm.

As Nyx said, as it stands right now, most races want to have peaceful happiness b/c it rewards the 4x's of the game. Playing Bloodthirsty or Neutral happiness is difficult as a human player. So maybe that is why all the races are set to peaceful again, or maybe when they zipped the 1.19 patch together they used the old "General.txt" files for the AI. I do know that at some point in the patch process, there was a variance between the happiness types.

Actually bloodthirsty suits my playing style a lot better than peaceful. I never make treaties and usually end up at war with the AI and I build a lot of ships. The drawbacks are that colonizing brings down happiness a bit but shipbuilding brings it up more. Neutral would be a tough way to play however unless you were the type that liked to sit and consolidate for long stretches of time before expanding again.

I think what was changed in 1.19 was those personality Groups. 1 through 4. That might explain why some races keep going to war with me even when I do nothing to them.

I think Sinapsus is on to something with the personality Groups, but I have no idea how they work.

After the patch, there should be a good mix. See my post of a .pdf file summary of all races over in the download section. You can see what they should be after Version 1.19.
