View Full Version : Gentlemen, my preview of SE4

After playing the SE4 demo it appears to me this could very well be the best galactic conquest game to date. I find it extremely detailed and a wealth of strategies are there to exploit. What I like about it follows:
Has to be the best ship design I have seen, second to none as far as I am concerned.
Very big galaxy with multiple systems to explore. The planets are actually interesting in the fact that some have special features such as ruin, etc
Finally we have moons orbiting some planets now as well which I find use for also, might I say. This is neat and the first time I have seen this in a game like this.
Graphics that are pretty and "clean cut" which fit perfect without losing any depth to the game.
Features that I have NOT seen in others like it such as the level of customization that we will be able to do in SE4! I think it is incredible!
Nice ships that actually look like starships instead of a alien creatures like they do in Stars Supernova. Another fine example of nice looking ships is the Original Stars! and Imperium Galactica II.
More, more, and 10x more goodies in this game then some of the others combined! So much depth and detail here it is almost(but not) overwhelming. This is a very good thing because it pushes galactic conquest to its limits and still manages to keep things easy to access and operate.
Asteriod fields, storms, nebular systems, etc. I can't think of anything else that could be added to this game that even remotely has something to do with space. Ideas anyone? Surely there is something that is not there that I can't think of?
At Last...Gentlemen this is a fine game and I really don't have anything to say bad about it so far. It reminds me of the original Stars! but just hands down better. Further more it is obvious that someone who loves these type of games is the main designer of SE4. That is what it takes to put out a fine game of galactic conquest that can actually be better then MoO2.

Not everyone here is a "gentleman". I know that the presumption is that "gamers" are all adolesent boys but there are more than just a few of us ladies out here that appreciate a good game.

Not doing badly styled necromancy and instead making interesting new threads?

Well, here are some examples just in the last few days:
From the "Tips and Tricks" thread 01/25/06 11:52 PM:

That sort of question should probably be posted in a new thread.
From the "Massive Planetary Shield Generators" thread 01/25/06 11:52 PM:

Please stop doing this... it is a really bad idea. Much better to make new threads.
Then when people didn't do as you requested 01/26/06 11:19 AM:

Please give it a rest, Fyron. If you think these are helpful, they are not. They are just bossy. Not even the moderators act this way and it is they who charged with this responsibility, not you. Again, please, have a little patience when you see something that you don't like. You don't need to come across this way. Thanks.

Give Fyron a break Slick. You don't get to 15k posts without rapping a few knuckles now and then. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Agreed, I'll drop it after noting that yes you can get to 15k posts and be a nice guy. Add your posts to SJ's and that's much higher than 15k; and I don't see you guys doing that petty stuff. And I'm not trying to kiss your butt, either /threads/images/Graemlins/Lips.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/heart.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif /threads/images/Graemlins/icon49.gif /threads/images/Graemlins/Poison.gif

You seem to have misinterpreted a few postings Slick. Geoschmo (IIRC) and I had talked about the settings.txt parsing problems a few months back via IM and, like all other ways to cheat, weren't going to make any public announcements, just send it to MM. I was just posting commentary, nothing malicious or petty.
The reply to Kwok posting as Spoogy was a joke, playing along with his post. It was not intended as part of the posting of dislike of frivilous thread necromancy.
Stickied threads should strive to remain on-topic, else they are not very useful to people trying to find the information that is their intended purpose. The same treatment is given to the Newbie FAQ thread.

Fyron, if you are arguing that you are really are a nice guy, just misunderstood, you've already lost the argument. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif
Don't sweat it. Everybody be your self and we can all get along. Every forum needs a few nice guys and a few rules nazi's. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Fyron gets a percentage kick back from the profit shrapnel makes from every new thread!
So, to help Fyron out we should all only post new threads!!! No more replying to old threads even if they are only a few seconds old.

Hey, slick, for the future, when you're going to be using so many small quotes, try doing a bold for the quote, with italics for your reply.
Makes it WAY easier to read.

You can't hardly call sandwiches "fast food" though. They are missing that crucial grease element. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
You can always go with a group, and get a stamp per person, then enjoy your free sandwich later. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Well Fyron, I consider any food that can be served to you within a minute or two "fast" and since you eat it, food! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
Kerensky, Geo...who'd wanna eat fast food more than once a week? For me, it's more like once a month, maybe! And wouldn't it get a little expensive?

Sure it can be expensive, and it's not typically all that healthy, and a lot of it doesn't even taste that good. But it's fast, and it's easy.
I'm not gonna try and defend it, but it's a multi-billion dollar industry, so I'm obviously not the only one doing it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Just saying that you can't really compare (most) sandwiches from places like Subway and Quiznos with typical fast food, aka sponge of grease + sticks of grease. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

True, in general they are healthier for you than the pseudo-food served at a lot of fast food joints.

I'm with Kamog !!! There's a subway just outside of where I work, and I hit the joint 'bout three times a week. Made it worthwhile to keep a card going, 'til they dropped them.
