I am a newbie to SE games and I LOVE this game. I don't fully understand how the intel system works. I research Counter Intl 1 nad 2 but after the 3 years are up.. I don't get any kind of advance. I have 5 or 6 planets devoted to intel.
Is there any way I can just turn off all use of intel-counter intel?

I havent really messed with it too much in my games. It just doesnt seem worth the bother and the facility space on my planets let alone the actual cost of researching the Intel Techs.
But, I leave it on just in case. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif If you want to turn it off, just turn off 'Applied Intel' in the pre-game set up 'Techs Allowed' area.

Counter Intell only stops intell actions against you you don't get anything from the "research". If no other races were using Intell against you when the operation finishes it will say that it fails. If you actually stop an Intell action it will tell you what race's intell operation was stopped.
There are some good intell operations included. I like the crew mutiny one especially if I am behind that race in ship research I can analyse their ships and get a free research jump.

The computer opponent took over one of my most powerful ships using intell. This happened when I was stretched very thin and had a huge impact on the game. The ship was docked at a very important planet and proceeded to wreak havoc.

Does the "crew mutiny" mission work on ships with master computers?
