I just saw the credit statement for buying Space Empires IV, it cost me <b>$84.29</b>.
This is ridiculous!! A far cry from what was supposed to be $53.95.
If you read Shrapnel's shipping FAQ, it states that:
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>"There has been a great deal of confusion about International orders due to the current e-commerce server we are using (which we will phasing out over the next month or so). Here are the basic costs for ALL shipping and handling for International order:
Canada - 13.00 flat fee
Mexico - 13.00 flat fee
Europe - 19.00 flat fee
Rest of World - 19.00 flat fee
So take any game you are ordering from us. Add the ABOVE fee and that is the FINAL cost."<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
I live in Canada, do the math.
$39.95 plus $13.00 DOES NOT equal $84.29!!!!!
Now, Shrapnel just stole $30.00 from me and I want it back.
I suggest you check your credit statements just in case you got screwed too. I have e-mailed both MM and Shrapnel with this.
This is a good game, but not worth $84.29!

Just wondering: is $53.95 (US dollars) equal to $84.29 in Canadian dollars?

According to the following web site, $53.95 US is equal $81.83 Canadian.

Holy ****.. damn, sorry. That is far more expensive than any other game up here. It seemed completely whacked, but I guess it makes sense. Games are NORMALLY about $50-60, I really didn't expect a game could cost more than $70!! let alone $80!
When the FAQ said FINAL, I took it for FINAL. That was my error I suppose.
Sorry about the harsh message, but I seriousely thought we had been screwed by something.. But it is legal that it cost $80.00 (probably not worth that much.)
The final bill of sale said $53.95, the sudden appearance of $80.00 on the credit reciept seemed very whacked. Thanks for pointing that out.. But I still think I paid faar too much for the game.

No problem. I bought an upgrade plane ticket in Toronto once for about $100 (Canadian). When I got my credit card statement I saw that I was only charged about $70 US. I thought I had stuck it to the man until I realized the exchange rate at the time was about 70% http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

Yeah, the exchange rates are killer. Its cool to be American and have prices on foreign goods way way low. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon12.gif

The only criminals here are the shippers. UPS, FedX, US Postal, and god only knows who else are ripping us all off. The game, with manual, weighed less than a christmas card that I mailed for 33 cents the other day yet it cost me nearly 18 dollars US to get it shipped GROUND. (thats the cheapest) Go figure.

$40 US is pretty good for a game here in the States, especially one this full-featured. When you add in the shiping for the continental US, it adds up to the price of a typical game and a bit less than the latest best-seller usually is.
It's interesting the prices are about the same in Canadian $ up north for store-bought products!

On the other hand I live in California and its cheaper to buy a game from Canada on the web and have it shipped here than to buy it here. If you can wait that extra week you can save 5 to 10 dollars sometimes. The exchange rate works both ways for some reason the games seem to be cheaper there.

I got my copy as a gift so to say thanks I took my buddy out to dinner which cost 700 yuan... that's over 80 dollars.
but that's not really how much it cost, and I would happily pay 100 dollars for this one since I will save alot of money buying other games that won't Last longer for a week.
I always pay double to get games that haven't been locallized for China.. and wait for weeks... arghhh.
