In my latest game had the problem of hitting strategic battle and my ships kinda swam around in a circle never going after the enemy. Twice the enemy was only a fighterless carrier and once a planet.

Possibly your fleet leader ship has "Don't Get Hurt" set. I have seen this behaviour when I have accidentaly set a fleet repair ship as leader.

I had optimum range set but I had a repair ship in each fleet so that is a possiblity. Thanks.

I've had a similar problem - I had a mixed fleet (missile boats and beam weapons). One of the missile boats was the fleet leader, and I had maximum range set. In strategic combat against a planet, the entire fleet stayed at missile range, which meant my beam weapons never fired. Really ticked me off. So I started using tactical, cleared group assignments at the beginning of the first turn, and then chose resolve combat. Not as fast as strategic, but at least I glassed another stinking Terran world (I swear, those guys are MEAN!).
Long live the Moebius Consortium!
