Newton V1.1:

This is just a quick conVersion of standard SE4 to a more Newtonian style of movement. All the standard AIs have been converted; to change over other AIs, download and use Suicide_Junkie's AI patcher. Use the P&N 2.x setting, and convert the AIDesigncreation file ONLY. DO NOT convert AI general.

I did discover a little bug/quirk in the file extension checker; it thinks:
"Pirates&NomadsModV2.3c.zip"
is Invalid (as a ".3C" file)

Is it really neccesary to block these? Is it a security threat if there are multiple "."'s in the filename?
Am I gonna have to rename the file "P&Nv2point3c.zip"?

PS: Is it just me, or is this new message board software really paranoid?
Even my sig's "& gt"'s get converted into <'s, then they get deleted as HTML tags when I edit my profile. Sheesh.

capnq's Hypermaze Mod v1.2

While many warp points lead to relatively short wormholes connecting star systems in normal space, the majority open into hyperspace zones where the fabric of space-time is less stable.

This mod adds a new quadrant type to the Game Set-Up screen. A Hypermaze quadrant has roughly as many colonizable systems as an Ancient quadrant, but most of the asteroid systems, nebulae, and black holes are replaced by hyperspace zones. Version 1.2 adds compatibility with Matryx's SE4 Launcher. (Note that these are for SE IV v1.49; Versions adapted for SE IV Gold are on the Gold CD.)

The "full" Version includes custom backgrounds for the hyperspace systems, and is over 7.9Meg.

Culture Mod: I balanced the Culture values based on an equivalent racial characteristic cost. I used 800 points as the base value determined by using a 2 in all fields for a neutral culture (making neutral a playable culture). Excel "What IF" spreadsheet included so anyone can change the numbers but still maintain a balanced culture. Can "What IF" new cultures by copying and pasting the values from the line above (some Excel necessary)

This is sort of a 'sub-mod' for P&N and for Ultimate. These two mods introduce the Racial Trait "Gravity Manipulation" for the P&N and Ultimate "Universes" respectively.

The components are purposely defensive in nature (i.e. Black Hole Projectors are exclusively planet based weapons), and have been created for the sole purpose of making my wife a better SEiv player.

In both cases this is a 'proposed' tech tree only. The creators of each mod have final say in what and how they incorporate this tech tree. Furthermore, these tech trees (or any part within them) can be used by anyone for any other mod.

::Begin Tired Mumbling:: Yello. It's me, the Green Stars guy from a long time ago. I know it was a crappy add-on, but I wanna repost it. I know Hadrian and the others were looking for who the author of the Green Stars was, so I could get credit in UM. I'm here, now. I haven't done much with SE4 for about a year, but I dug up some other odd star files. I have odd, probably unworkable ideas for what could be done with artifically making asteroids colonizable, as I don't think there's a value for it in the game or anything. What you do is make a new planet entry in SectType, let's say Tiny. You put the graphic for a small asteroid field on it, and set it for Rock, no athmosphere. To distinguish it from normal, uncolonizable asteroids, you put the little colonizable graphic used to show population on a ship right next to the asteroids. It might work, but the problem is that if you colonized that 'asteriod', and changed the athmosphere, it would become a planet of another type. There might be a way around this, but I don't know. Another idea that I had was making small, free-floating dome colonies. I know in the UM there are these old machine planets, but these would be smaller and buildable. They would have the same problem as the asteriod idea, though. If there was a way to make new planet types (other than rock, ice, or gas), you could make a Metal planet, which would work for such things. If it is possible, the only roadblocks would be designing the graphics for ship components. To go off in another tangent again, you could make a class of ship like that, specifically a large baseship that holds population. If it has a construction yard and could build facilities, would it be a movable planet? I don't know all of the features in the UM, as I DLed a few days ago. Sorry for my rambling; I'm just really tired right now, so that is why I'm not making much sense. ::End Tired Mumbling::

Zippy's SE IV Mod spans many aspects of SE IV, making additions and improvements to each of these areas. The mod also includes a program that allows you to quickly and safely adjust the difficulty of my mod. There are too many changes to list individually, but some of the more significant changes include:

1. Improved AI text files
2. 25 new types of components (most have between 3-20 levels of improvement, new pictures, new sounds, and fighter Versions)
3. 36 additional tech areas (13 additional unique tech areas)
4. Many modifications to the original components and research areas
5. Sensors and ECM now add to vehicle modifiers 6. A new racial trait (called Energy Race) with its own ships and a hybrid of shields and armor
7. Eight unique AI’s that are compatible with the new and modified components and the new tech areas. Each AI has unique and highly optimized Research and DesignCreation files.
8. New CompEnhancements, Cultures, and Facilities
9. Improved game balance
10. A few new beam and torp pictures
11. 31 new combat sound files

My Components.txt file is around 800k while the Components.txt file that comes with v1.49 is only around 485k. Using these numbers as a rough estimate says that my mod has over 50% more components than the original Version!

There is more, but if this isn’t enough to make you want to try my Mod, then I’m afraid that I’ve failed.

If you are looking for something new and challenging, then I think you'll enjoy!

MINIATURIZATION MOD

This release mainly fixes a crash reported by some folks that had more than 80 race sets installed on their PC. Here's the download link:

This is the set of micro fighters for P&N v2.6 (see vehicle file).

I've made some changes to the other two files. Changes are always entered at the very bottom of the file.

The Components file includes the small cargo container for fighters (I just couldn't find yours) and I've put an appendix at the end of the file that includes my thoughts on astromech droids. They're a sketch of my ideas that I'd like to propose to the Sci-Fi cross-over, are they any good?

The unfinished Starfire Scenerio. This is a modifed Version of Proportions 2.2. I asked PvK earlier if posting this on PBW would be OK; hopefully that also applies here.

You need Proportions 2.2 to use this, as I've deleted the pictures to cut down on download time. Just copy the pictures directory over from Proportions 2.2. Do NOT overwrite any of the files in the planets directory; they're needed for the closed warp point.

this isn't much useful on it's on, posted by request. Will not be updated nor supported, and I'm not 100% sure the new elements are balanced correctly.

Includes:
-map (sf2e is the one I intended to use, after manually opening some more WPs with the GM race)
-new techs: Allied Tech, OF, Bug Engineering/Weapons, Gunboats.
-modifed the racial traits to better represent the Bugs and Opolichi populations.
-.EMP files for all major races plus the "GM" race; text used for description is from the Starfire website.

here are the transformer names list. They have all the transformers from all american and japan shows. I put all the good guys in the autobot file and all the bad guys in the decpticons file.
You may find the same name in both files as the bot switched sides, depending on the show. You may also find different names for the same bot as that bot changed names depending on the show. I just wanted to have a complete list.

I don't remembe the author and apologize if I offend him/her by reposting the data files.
The original download is buried somewhere here.
It is very good mod. I wish the author will upgrade it to include new Gold systems (with some changes, of course). Then it will be awesome.

P.S. it uses some nice graphic for storm systems,
I don't have 1024 Version (space restrictions on my computer). Sorry.

Here is a program I made that lets you view all the techs,components,facilities,vehciles and itel project and prvides links to each other. (read the short help file for the non obvious things you can do) Currently I am upgrading the program so you can edit all the things.

(updated June 17 so will work in SE4 installed in non default directory (memo to self. enable error check routines when compiling! Doh! )

Seven AI races are now used in this. Don't expect
anything TOO bright from them, as they pretty
much research and design ships in the same
way....

John Beech's Ship Set: "Neo-Canadians" is supported
now in GNB, and is included in the patch, mostly
because I'm 50% Canadian Anecestry http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif .

The minor changes to it are:
-Fixing the Canadian Flag to be cleaner.
-Changing the Ruler's name and title to
one of my canadian friends.
-Changing the AI so it works with GNB.

Weapons platforms are still pretty much useless,
as I have a LOT of work to do on them still,
mostly involving the tedious work of copying
the component data for everything and making
duplicates of them using the WeapPlatform tag.

But everything else has been fiXored, and lots
of new stuff is included, and it's all been
playtested somewhat by me.

I've split the Ship Yards into three different
areas:

Deepdock (component for bases - Fastest shipyard due to zero G assembly line)
Planetary Yard (facility for colonies - 2nd fastest due to sheer size)
Mobile Ship Yard (component for ships - slowest due to fact it has to
fit on a moving ship)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Download the patch.
Go into your /GNB_Mod directory and delete the following folders:
AI
DSGNNAME

Then Go into the PICTURES directory and delete the RACES folder.

Unzip the 1.01 Patch into the GNB_Mod Directory using the folder
option of Winzip, and PLAY!

The Last thing left to do is replace your minis:
components.bmp gets replaced by newcomponents.bmp
facilities.bmp gets replaced by newfacilities.bmp
and so on...

This will not affect the unmodded game, and so it can replace the original picture files without harm.

General Mod Information:
MountMod-AJC.zip-
Is for new games started in Version 1.78.

Whats in this Mod:

Mount Modification for Base game. No technology changes. However technology will have to be researched to discover the new mounts.

Ships become much tougher in this mod. I compensated by incorporating miniturization into all of the advanced weapon mounts and increasing the damage dealt. To look at the mod look at the CompEnhancement.txt file. This file can be found in:

Space Empires IV\MountMod-AJC\Data\CompEnhancement.txt

Note:
Shield Generator mounts come in two types, the first level will only require you to research level 3 shields before the 1st generation shield mounts come into play for bases, 400+ KT ships and 200+ KT weapon platforms.

Each mount type has unique tech requirements. The technology requirements for the new mounts are spread throughout the tech tree. Here is a breakdown of the tech levels that are required to activate the various stages of the new mounts.

Ever wished the AI sported more powerful ships? Ever ran into the AI's Dreadnought and blown it apart with a few destroyers and felt cheated somehow? Well this modd tries to correct this (a little).

I've taken the (supposidly) mega powerful racial traits of Organic and Crystalline (thus the CryOrg name) and made them more powerful...Massively so.

How you ask? Simple, by creating a Mount Mod that the AI will use and use effectively. The average Organic(or Crystalline) destroyer is roughly as tough (or tougher) as the average normal cruiser (or even battlecruiser). The mounts within the modd are clearly marked as AI/Human use. TO USE THE AI MOUNTS AS A HUMAN CLEARLY DEFEATS THE PURPOSE OF THIS MOD!!! The only reason to use the mounts as a human player would be as the 'uber-bad-guy' of a roleplay modd (think B5's Shadows). Thus you can use this modd one of two ways, either restrict Organic and Crystalline tech to AI's only (Best IMO) or just don't use the AI mounts for the tech's.

This modd will make the AI dangerous!!! I've seen a Shadow's dreadnought fire a broadside of 30 Parasite V's by itself! A Xi'Chung defense base mounts over 5000 shield points and can dish out over 6000 damage per combat turn. SETUP INSTRUCTIONS: Download file and unzip/place into your data folder of se4 or the modd folder you are using (after re-naming the current 'CompEnhancement.txt' file to something else of course.). Rename the downloaded file to 'CompEnhancement.txt' (take off the CryOrg part of the filename). Start a game and load up your favorite Organic/Crystalline AI's (Phong, Y'Gath, Vong, Xi'Chung (deadly!), Ukratal, etc) and enjoy.

This modd works best with the TDM modd as it already has quite strong AI's.

I have uploaded an event file, which is part of my starfire mod (though I could not duplicate many of th e situations - I am keeping the name for now).

The mod duplicates many of the Intel projects as random events. If these are used you won't automatically know when someone is using intel on you, or you might mistakenly think they are. In several cases I decreased the population happiness by one rather than doing anything constructive (e.g. planet is scanned).

Ultimate Strategies Mod v1.01.00

New Version!

This mod makes alterations to the strategies and formations in SEIV Gold. The goal is to expand upon the strategic choices available to the player.

Because formations are controlled by a data file and not changeable from within the game, this mod will allow PBW and PBEM Users to play otherwise normal games with custom formations.

This mod also modifies the DefaultColonyTypes and DefaultDesignTypes files, to create more variety in the default selections.

Sorry, but I dont know yet to post to uploads in the same message. So, this one is about the modifications I made, some original and other shamelessly copied from other mods, based in Proportions Mod. In the log file are given all the sources where the different items where taken from.

Please! I will give Full credit to the authors, in case someone feels angry about this, bear in mind that its a file I changed for my exclusive personal use and for learning a little about modding this marvelous game. In any case I will take credit for what I haven´t done, nor make a "self mod" only changing some file title world.

By the way: Thanks to everyone who made the different and all marvelous and ingeniously thought mods (PvK, SJ, Mephisto, and a long etc...) Really, to browse inside the txt files and little by little understanding what each one of you wanted to "model" in components and units was a very enjoyable and instructive passtime. I think I spent more time doing this, than playing the game itself! Please don´t feel abused! and keep the good work.

Here are two images (the firts ones!) of the X-Com ship set for the X-Com mod.

Help request: I'm using smaller Versions of the portrait images instead of true mini pics. Would someone be able to make the needed "viewed fron above" pics using this images? Or better still, can someone tell me how is it done (if it is possible)?

Credits: Drone image is taken fron the X-Com Apocalypse game. Heavy Fighter image was downloaded from Luftwaffe '46 webpage.

And Last: A help request: Why when I use one of the pictures of the Component Image Pack (not the "standard" ones provided with the game) they are not shown in the ship design window or in the tactical combat (ship comps) screens? Is it needed to copy the image files in a reduced (36 x 36 pixels?) size to another directory? Can it be fixed? I like to see my new components when I use them in a ship design !!!

Here I will upload (not from my own crippled PC)
the following files, I hope ALL of you will be able to download them without a problem.

The contents of the files are:

Comps36x36.zip: This file is the big component image archive (converted to jpg format) with the inclusions of the new X-Com related components.

Images files: Includes the images of individual components, the still incomplete shipset (Warning: some designs were taken from other shipsets, some directly, other modified, from: UFA shipset, Zeta reticuli shipset, Gorn AST shipset, etc... (a Credits.txt file is due!) Please all interested parties tell me if it is OK to "lend" the images.

Data files: It includes a rough draft file with X-Com mod ideas (supposed to be enormously augmented by your help!). The fragmnents of TechArea.txt and Facility.txt files I have written (to paste on the original files you are using). And Last, but not least there is a file with all the additions and modifications I made to mo personal Proportions Mod Game. Perhaps you can use some of the ideas (All things borrowed are indicated there!)

If you are interested in having those modded files you only have to ask for them, and I will upload them for you.

Notes/etc:

This will be the final upload of my mount mod for the forseeable future. It has alot of changes (and yes, tonnes of mounts http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif ). Most notibly the Gatling mounts have been re-balanced to make them less than the uber-weapons they were.

Additions:
Engine Mounts (Civilian/Merchant/Military)
Robo-Miner Mounts (with levels)
Short and Long range Missile Mounts (with levels)
removal of key overpowered mounts and rebalance of tech levels on a few mounts.

A final note on the Long/Short range missile mounts. Yes I know, you can NOT affect the range or damage of the seeker itself with mounts, these mounts instead affect the range at which the seeker is launched. Either eliminating the time the target has to 'missile dance' (short range) or firing before the target enters range (Long range) so there is less time to target impace (ie , weapon platforms that can't move anyway). The big 128x128 pixel components were adequately numbered to be compilant with the Comp image pack v1.13 (latest).

Here's Version 1.00 of the 'speechpack' it contains 50 different speechfiles.

I DID NOT CREATE THESE FILES. All praise should go to the authors, a list of the authors ( and additional information) can be found in the archive in readme_speechfiles.txt

Contact me (meelhenk@hotmail.com) if one of your files is in this archive and you want it removed and I'll remove it from this archive asap.

I have tried to make a complete listing of the speechfiles with their authors, but it is very possible that there are unintentional) errors or omisions in this list, since many of the files were found in multiple shipsets or without good documentation. please report any errors to the email provided above

how to use:

Rename the speechfile you want to use to Racename_AI_speech.txt and place it in the racedirectory of the race that should use it. I tried to give a description of each racefile (in the readme) which should make it easier to match races with suitable speechfiles.

Here is my first contribution for SEIV - a rather basic one, but you have to start somewhere. It's a name file for most of the current (and a few fictional) nations on earth. The catch is that I used the local Version of the name, transliterated into English, where possible. This makes for some interesting names at times...

This is a redo of the minor mod that Geoschmo put together a while back. It replaces the race pics of the 20 standard races and 6 neutrals.

I rearranged some of the pics to be more suitable and polished some of the pics (just the ones actually being used for the races). All of the Pop_Portrait and Pop_Mini pics have been given black backgrounds to make cargo less of a pain.

COLONY TECH MOD v1.0.0 (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/newuploads/1051137472.zip)

This mod is designed to curb the cheesy "colony tech trading" that occurs so often in PBW games. It makes colony techs racial-trait-based so a Rock race cannot trade its colony tech with an Ice or Gas race, etc. Note that researched colony techs can still be traded between races with the same planet types - two Rock races can exchange ice or gas tech, for instance. In addition, the colony components for colony techs that are not of one's native planet type are twice as large and expensive, and a 500 kT Ark Ship has been added to hold these colony components (Ship Construction L3).
As of yet, there is no AI for this mod, though it would not be difficult to modify any race AI to use this mod, all that would be required would be changing the research and general files so the AI picks the appropriate racial trait and researches the appropriate tech for its home planet type.

This patch will upgrade your AST Mod 1.6, 1.7 to 1.8.

This latest patch adds new Hirogen, Dominion, and Son'a Emp files to the Empire Folder. It makes changes to files in the DATA folder and adds the latest AI for all the races.

I STRONGLY Recommend that you download the new Dominion, Cardassian, Ferengi, Hirogen, & Son'a races (http://galileo.spaceports.com/~william/main.htm) by Atrocities and ADD ONLY the BMP's to those races in your AST MOD. The new ship images are very nice and give the races a more real Star Trek feel.

I will upload the AST MOD v1.8 Complete this weekend.

Remember to install the new patch over your current install of the AST mod and click OK to over write files. Enjoy. (The file contains a revision text file)

Here is a tweak of the Proportions mod to include primitive Neutral races.

This is realy a first attempt but I think that it's playing smooth enough to be released.

Be sure to give some feedback such as comments on research speed, additional features, etc.

Here is a PBW Version of the CompEnhancement.txt file. This file will make the Borg Ship Mount less over powering, and more on an even keel with the other race ship mount advantages.

I suggest you use it to replace the exsisting file if your going to use the AST mod for a PBW game.
