View Full Version : Troops and Supplies??

I started this game with all technology found.
This is the first time I am using troops. I was just wondering. Why is it on troops that they have weapons that use supply points but there isn't a component that generates supplies? Do troops even work without any supplies? Could this be a bug?
Thanks.

This appears to be a result of troops and fighters sharing the same weapon designs (I assume that fighters do obey the supply rules). Troops can't run out of supplies, so far as I can tell (and I use 'em so furiously that I'm pretty sure they would have run out of supplies if they could).

I'm not certain fighters use supplies... I'll have to test this. I do know that:
1) fighter reports show amount of supplies in the group (assuming fighter group is launched; fighters in cargo either on planets or on a carrier don't show supply data)
2) fighters stored on a carrier don't pool their supplies with the rest of the fleet.
I wonder if fighters are resupplied anytime they get stored in a fighter bay/cargo bay/planetary cargo? Or if they have to return to a resupply depot?
What about Quantum Reactors for fighters?

I use fighters extensively in most of my games I do know that they do not need supplies when being carried by a carrier or on a planet. However when moving in space by themselves they use up supplies. (They are very short range by themselves so they need to stick close to a resupply depot.)
As this is supply related as well, has anyone noticed that stellar manipulations components don't use up any supplies when used?
I think the matter gavity sphere for instance says it needs 4000 supplies but you can use it on a ship that doens't even carry that many supplies.

I noticed that too. I am sure its just a glitch that will get fixed in the next patch.
Fighters do use up supplies while in space. I recall loosing my only carrier in battle, and all my fighters were stranded. That sucked. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon9.gif They all ran our of supplies and as a result, were picked off by the enemy. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon9.gif

So how do you resupply fighters? Same as ships (i.e., move to resupply depot; form fleet with ships that have lots of supplies)? or can you resupply simply by getting picked up by a carrier?

Fighters resupply by being picked up and launched again. Both by carriers and by planets. Note that the planet does not need to have a resupply depot to resupply fighters. It only needs to load them into carge and then relaunch them.

Fighters also resupply by being in a fleet with other ships that have an on-board supply source (solar panels, quantum reactor). In one game, I created system defense forces by fitting my old frigates with quantum reactors and putting them in a fleet with a wad of fighter. Your "fighter group" then has unlimited range within the system. If you put all the planets in a system building fighter, you can accumulate an aweful lot of them...
