I believe they use the Default_AI, but I could be mistaken. I just felt like responding because I love this forum! WOOOO HOOOO!

As a follow up question? How do you make them more of a threat

now THAT is a loaded question!
I am just starting to learn how to get races to do stuff, so hopefully a more knoweledgable person will step up. However, to get things rolling http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon12.gif
give the AI races full difficulty and full bonus at start of game.
play like a neutral yourself until "discovered" by an AI player.
as for changing the files...set the research files look for advances in a particular area, say organics by including lines in the AI_research.txt file to force research there. then in the two creation files, make them actually build the ships/weapons/facilities by putting in the approriate lines. How! *shrug* get a couple of the MOD 'ed races like the EA or Darlok or Sergetti or look at the existing ones that have the racial features you want (eg organic, temporal, etc). but before ya do the change put the original file(s) in a back-up area somewhere so that if you get range check errors or index errors or other silly things like that, you can put all back as before.
Hope this helps (and I didn't mess screw this up)..
Happy gaming!

I would tend to agree with ye, oh great Pathfinder. So let it be written. So let it be done. LOL... I love it!
