I've been playing one game for a several weeks now. Really hooked on this, 'cept for the darned job I gotta keep to pay the electric bill.

Got a problem now though. Had research points up over 70K. AI player whacked some of my planets and I lost facilities. Beat the AI back and rebuilt. Problem is the research screen tells me I have 50K points and uses that to determine completion times. Colonies screen says I'm cranking out 77,521 research points. Same problem with Intelligence - Intel screen pegged at 50K points while Colonies screen has me producing 52,973. Anybody know what's going on?

This is a known bug that will be corrected in the next patch. The threads on it are a few weeks old by now but you can probably still find them.

Also, check the patch thread for the list of 1.20 fixes:

"13. Fixed - If a race had a treaty of Subjugation or Protectorate, their
research points would be capped at 50,000."

Thanks, Coldsteel. I looked back, but obviously not far enough. C'mon 1.20 patch!
