What good does population do you outside of colonization?

The larger the population, the more construction and resource bonuses you get. If your population is 0 - 99M you get 100%. If it is 100 - 499M you get 105% of normal etc... These can be found in the settings.txt file.

02000-02999 +030%
03000-03999 +040%
04000-04999 +050%
05000-05999 +060%

07000-07999 +080%
08000-09999 +090%
10000+ +100%

there are several levels of production bonus you can get the more pop you have.
Check the ability tab on your home planet and compare it to a new colony and you will see what i mean. (a Bman tip)
i believe the Last bonus is at 10B
