What's the max size of empire background text?

Ok, so I am writing up the background for my new race (to be used henceforth as well as for the Race to SE5 tourney) and as I write the background text it is getting pretty long. Does anyone out there know what the max size (in characters, I guess) for the background, sociey, and biological descriptions are?

The background text boxes use scrollbars, so presumably you can type till your computer runs out of RAM.

Well, I would just assume that the EMP files contain variables that have some sort of coded limit. I guess they could be pointers to unlimited text though....in any case, people will stop reading early on, of that I am sure...

If you go to the Space Empires Galaxies (http://galaxies.spaceempires.net/) web site, you can see some long history entries. Go to the Aldan Galaxy site. Click on Empires. View the Zhentara and Soban Dominion pages (the Soban has the longest I have ever seen http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif). That info fits in the empire file fine.

If your text is longer, just copy it into a new empire file, then save it. Remove it from the list. Readd the empire file (this will ensure that it is reading from whatever was saved in the actual .emp file). Start the game. See if your text shows up.

My guess would be either 32 kilobytes, 1.6 megabytes, or 2.8 gigabytes, as those are especially important powers of 2 http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Huh. Well, it came out to 10.5Kb, which is under the general rule of thumb of 16K, so I suspect I'll be ok...in any case, it uploaded fine...
